RE: The Onion Buys Infowars - UltraBudgie - 11-15-2024

They started throwing everything and the kitchen sink at him during Pizzagate and Sandy Hook was the one that stuck. It was a non-issue for years before then.

Quote:December 2012 -- A gunman kills 20 children and six staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, using a Remington Bushmaster rifle. The shooting ends when the gunman, Adam Lanza, takes his own life.
April 2013 -- Jones calls Sandy Hook a “government operation” with “inside job written all over it” during an Infowars broadcast, one of at least a dozen occasions when he and other Infowars contributors spread false claims about the shooting.
April 16, 2018 -- Three parents of Sandy Hook victims file two separate lawsuits against Jones and the parent company of his Infowars site, Free Speech Systems LLC, in Texas state court.
May 23, 2018 -- Thirteen family members of Sandy Hook victims as well as one FBI agent sue Jones and four entities connected to Jones in Connecticut state court.

Edit: I don't feel comfortable calling it a "non-issue", although legally that's what it was. See my previous post. Let's just say that the case was not asserted in court or mainstream media before then.

RE: The Onion Buys Infowars - UltraBudgie - 11-15-2024

Huh. I thought Mr Jones was bloviating, but the AP has just put this out:

Quote:What happens next in The Onion's effort to buy Alex Jones' Infowars

The Onion’s winning bid for Alex Jones ’ Infowars platform is under review by a federal bankruptcy judge after Jones and his lawyers complained about how an auction was conducted.

The satirical news outlet was announced as the winning bidder on Thursday in an auction that is part of Jones' personal bankruptcy. Hours later, Infowars headquarters in Austin, Texas and its websites were shut down and Jones was broadcasting from a new studio he had set up before the bankruptcy auction. By Friday morning, Infowars and its websites were back up and running for reasons that were not entirely clear.

At a hastily called court hearing in Houston on Thursday, Judge Christopher Lopez ordered another hearing to be held next week. He wants to know what happened with the auction and how the bankruptcy trustee chose The Onion over the only other bidder — a company affiliated with a Jones product-selling website.

Still think it might be Jones' finger on the on/off switch, manipulating things to maximize his message.

Edit: Oops, I'm wrong. From later in the article:

Quote:Murray [the bankruptcy trustee] had Infowars' website and studio shut down Thursday as he began the process of securing assets, a lawyer for the trustee said in court Thursday. But on Friday, Infowars and its websites were back up and running.

Um… Alex said yesterday on Twitter judge blocked Onion peurchase.

Here is article from leftist: Variety
Quote:The bankruptcy judge overseeing the Chapter 7 liquidation of Infowars and Jones’ assets on Thursday temporarily halted the transfer of Infowars to the Onion and ordered an evidentiary hearing for next week to review the auction — in which bids were submitted secretly. “No one should feel comfortable with the results of this auction,” Judge Christopher Lopez of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas said

What Jones is saying is the Onion did not put in the highest bid and won. Apparently that is illegal and going to cause another huge fiasco as shown by infowars being back online today. Jones says he will be back in his main studio on Monday. What a circus ?

First United repeated its accusations that the families, their Connecticut lawyers and the trustee has improperly colluded and “rigged” the bidding.

So FU bids $3.5M, and the final deal was Onion pays $1.75M, exactly half that, with the families "forgiving" enough of their claim to make the Onion's total bid $7M, exactly twice that.

In a sealed blind bidding auction.

Hmm.
