There were forward deployed KC-46s and KC-135s that arrived several days before the mission. They may have been supported by KC-30s from the RAAF, but I haven’t seen any leaks about that anywhere if they were.

That mission would thoroughly suck.

Like going to SLC from Denver via NYC, London and Japan.

"Sure, let's fly an extra 7,000nm +/-...why not?"

Hopefully they returned via the Atlantic for a full circumnavigation.  (or was that the point, to set some mission distance/time aloft record?)

(Hope they got some kind of an award / record for that...seriously).

Coming back, they weren’t as concerned about security. Going via Europe on the inbound leg they’d be required to notify every country they’d fly over beforehand. By going west they only had to notify Australia.

No, all the intel I’ve seen says they were using BLU-109 2,000 pound JDAMs.

I was mistaken on the recovery location. It wasn’t Whiteman to Whiteman, it was Whiteman to Diego Garcia. It may turn into a Bomber Task Force Mission. Total flight time was 45 hours.
