A Sad Commentary on the World
#1
There is considerable discussion about porous borders and their impact on sovereign nations.
The USA saw what happened in four years of an open southern border.

In this article, we what one of the few remaining WW2 veterans feels about the current state of affairs in the UK.
I must say, it was hard to hear this WW2 hero make this statement.

https://www.thesun.ie/news/16071308/war-...f-britain/
Quote:Adorned with medals, Alec Penstone, 100, told viewers how he quit his job in a factory to serve his country as soon as he became old enough.

He referred to himself as “just a lucky one” for surviving the war after losing many of his friends while serving in the Royal Navy.

But when host Kate Garraway asked the veteran what Remembrance Sunday meant to him and what message he wanted to share, his answer left her floored.

He said the state of the UK today “wasn’t worth” winning the war for.

Folks, this is no joke.
Not only do we risk losing our identity as a nation, whether it be in the UK, USA, Italy, or elsewhere.
But we lose our freedoms, even those guaranteed by our country's rules.

Quote:
Adil Ray asked Mr Penstone to explain what he meant by his comments, to which he responded: “What we fought for was our freedom, now it’s a darn sight worse than when I fought for it.”

Living overseas I am around many X-Pats. Brits, Swedes, Australians, Austrians, Americans, and Canadians; all guys I play golf with. . They all left their home countries for one reason or another but some of the main reasons seems to be because of crime, taxes, immigrant no go zones, and a society they barely recognize and do not feel part of or want to be part of.

Some move because they are divorced or their spouse died and are looking for a fresh start. None want to return that I know of, or have plans to ever return to their country of birth. Sad  for even those who went back to their birth country for whatever reason to visit, usually come back with a bad taste on how their country is progressing.(sarc) but welcome to the new brave world.

I guess those who can spend the remainder of their days in a place they feel safe and can afford to live a decent life (by their standards) is a blessing.

I literally just watched a clip of this interview. Absolutely heartbreaking . Even more so because he's completely correct.
I cannot even fathom what someone who endured war times must be thinking about the state of the world right now and how many friends, family members died for nothing but a temporary idea of freedom.

What did any of us fight for, if our political leaders just fuck us in the ass afterwards?

Many of the Vets from Vietnam certainly believe this is not the country's end game they fought for.  Bitterness on the War's outcome and then watching their neighborhoods turned into a mini me from a shit hole country is "Not Nice !"  Stopping communism over there so we would not have to fight it here seemed to be a theme back then... Once again empty words and failed policies.. Guess that is why we get old and die so we do not have to watch the stupidity ???

Listening to some of the protestors and government's so called leaders it would appear it will get worse before it gets ( if ever) better.

As a victory baby (born 13 months after the war ended) -- as a child I grew up in a pro-America era.

In a typical quiet white Christian neighborhood.  Rode our bikes, be home when the street lights came on, etc.

Before the Fair Housing Act, before Civil Rights Act, before Equal Employment, before Disability Act, before Freedom of Information Act, before Equal Credit Opportunity Act 1974, and many other freedoms we did not have.

Memory is selective -- beware of the chains that bind.

Imagine what freedoms we would have lost if we didn't WIN the war.

That's a little hardcore... even for here...
I'll ask politely that you refrain from the phrase...
It makes it difficult to respond properly.

Nevertheless, I could make a case that they we're doing it all along...
and have been... and actually plan to continue... forever...
their version of continuity my man... continuity.

The parties are broken... all this drama is theirs...
they think the rest of us only 'get' to watch and listen...
they think... they pray... they are broken.

It was a good era for white men.

It was a good era for people.

Why do you have to be so racist?
