British journalist Sami Hamdi detained by US authorities
#1
Quote:British journalist and media commentator Sami Hamdi, an outspoken critic of Israel, has been arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
While on a speaking tour of the US over the weekend, Hamdi was detained by ICE officers and his visa was revoked, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Tricia McLaughlin, announced on X on Sunday.
Hamdi is in ICE custody pending his removal from the country, she added.
The State Department and DHS allege that Hamdi supports terrorism and poses a threat to national security, while a Muslim advocacy group argues he is being politically targeted in violation of his free speech rights.

Whether or not someone is a citizen, I believe they have freedom of speech. Even described by the founding fathers as part of our God given rights.

While I would disagree with this even if they criticized my own government, the fact we are going against constitutional rights for a foreign government is absurd. I'm struggling to see why both parties are bending the knee to a foreign nation. On all the things to comprimise on constitutional rights, it's for someone else.

You can say ANYTHING in this country.

BUT, you are responsible for your words.

Did he call for the genocide of jews?

Free speech is like gun rights.

You should be able to own a firearm.

But that doesn't mean you can use it to kill people you don't like.

imho
You must develop the ability to be disliked in order to free yourself from the prison of other people's opinions.

From your source.

Quote:"We've said it before, we'll say it again: The United States has no obligation to host foreigners who support terrorism and actively undermine the safety of Americans," the State Department said on X in a post about Hamdi's detainment.

They didn't accuse him of supporting terrorism, nor did you show him calling for genocide.

I'd maybe give them the benefit of the doubt. He is after all foreign with a Muslim sounding name.

But, the admin has on multiple occasions completely disregarded the constitution in no uncertain terms (not the first admin to do that). So, I'll be skeptical of those in power like those before them.

It may be funny and cutsie to people who support the policies or politics. But it's precedence just like all of it before this moment. When they're gone, someone else will be there with more power, and less guardrails. It will only be harder to challenge it each time.

Like Obama and Biden attacking conservatives with using the DOJ and IRS?

Yea, just like that.

Or when they both strengthened the patriot act and used it against conservatives.

Or when Obama droned a US citizen.

The trend continues. No one is going to decide to hold the high ground. It will just continue to be a tit for tat while we all relinquish power and trust to the federal government.

The right used to defend the constitution, but many of them still support all of these actions. So now, neither of the two parties even claim to defend the constitution.
