I'm putting this in 'RANT', but it's not really a rant.
I"m not uptight about it.
Just making an observation
According to GOOGLE AI -
- Approximately 2,300 people are reported missing every day in the United States.
- 98% of cases are resolved within a year.
- In 2023, over 563,000 people were reported missing, according to FBI data.
- over 26,000 active, long-term missing person cases exist.
.... and we never hear about any of them because they aren't celebrities or celebrity adjacent. I get that Nancy Guthrie going missing is a horrible thing and it deserves some attention in order for the case to be solved .... but it's on the media 24 hours a day and they aren't really saying anything except speculation. Once in a while showing the perp so people can try to identify him, and giving a quick 1 minute update every so often ... I can see that. But the amount of coverage for this is insane.
2,300 people go missing every day. If a regular everyday person went missing they wouldn't be getting this much attention. Most get no attention.
Side note ... I've never heard of Samantha Guthrie before this. I don't know what level 'celebrity' she is. I guess to people who watch whatever show she's on have heard of her before. I hadn't.

I was shocked when I read how many people world wide disappear, but North America does seem to have a larger share.
Quote:The estimated number of people who disappear every year is difficult to determine due to the lack of a centralized database and varying definitions of what constitutes a disappearance. However, according to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), which is the United States’ central repository for tracking missing persons, there were over 600,000 reports of missing persons in 2020 alone.
I have read a couple of the Missing 411 books which were fascinating.

Fox News is finally winding it down some. It is now less than half their coverage. I think they have been burned too many times on this one by reporting information that changes or is wrong an hour later.
Also the nothing new is occuring. And nothing new is continuing to occure. That is getting very old.
Now they are covering other news again.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

The sheriff, who by most accounts has botched this from the start, said the other day that it could take years to find Nancy Guthrie. Years. I don't want daily coverage of nothing on this for years.

Im not sure it's a kidnapping any more could be a botched burglary. Even more normal people die from that too
The suspect was supposedly in the house a while IIRC
I got stuck reading on webslueths.com, missing persons cold cases; there are thousands of them.
They solved one from the 80's, the young guy graduated from highschool and was about to go to Auburn University.
He went to a party that summer and went to drive back home, and never made it.
Finally, in the 2020s, water levels dropped in a lake near his route, and his car was there with him inside. No foul play, just an accident.
I have daughters, I can't imagine not knowing for so long brutal.

My best mate was a cat burglar, and this has more the signs of foul play than it does a botched burglary.
You dnt take a gun on a B&E, this "circumstance of aggravation", what was burglary is now home mason.

The missing persons system looks like a mess in America, lot of fractured websites with bits and piece of the puzzle. No clear oversight with lots of cracks to fall through. Then got people like Laura Silsby in charge of Code Orange...

I'd be willing to bet most burglars in America are packing.
I mentioned a bungled burglary because if it's a kidnapping FOR RANSOM, it was a very unprofessional attempt
