Congratulations? However I don't think that is what the op was referring to, it came across more like when they enter a room everyone stops and notices them and while that may be I was also putting forth the possibility that maybe not every situation is that. You came along and mentioned you get the same but it might be because you wear a silly hat and then I pointed out that wearing a silly hat would elevate you in a room full of average people and that it might be the source of why you get extra attention when you grace a room. Not sure how this turned into what you have spun it up into, but okay.

I've been putting forth the 'situational awareness' theory all along as a possible explanation.

As to why the OP might get attention when they enter a room? Yeah that's a good theory.

The OP never mentioned that he entered a room, rather he was referring to being a block away from someone and they would look back or around them, then look at him/her. This where my 'situational awareness' theory is being addressed as well as in a specific sports bar environment where people are likely to over indulge and start behaving stupidly. As for his grandfather entering a room, he said he was tall, very tall, so of course that would be noticed by others right away.

Still has nothing to do with what you accused me of, but okay.

Hey, if you can be in a sports bar and if you are able to totally ignore everyone around you except the people in front of you then watch yourself going to the bathroom because you didn't want to bother to notice that drunk guy at the end of the bar looking for a fight. That behaviour still does not make a lot of sense to me, just saying. Maybe some other members here can chime in to explain to me how they are able to totally ignore people around them in public places or situations more so a sports bar public situation as that is the sticking point here.

I guess i've been lucky. I do understand where your coming from I just don't live with that kind of fear. Maybe that's because of living in small towns instead of major cities but it could happen anywhere.

Is being aware of your surroundings and the people in them based in fear? I don't think so, especially in small towns, where I live, where being more aware of who is around you is just being prepared to greet the people in your community. But it is an interesting point you make that depending upon your environment that it may/would affect your behaviour. I guess I've seen too many negatives in sports bars and small town taverns where I'm on the lookout.
