Corruption comes from a mix of power, fear, and opportunity.
 
When people feel like they can get away with something, especially if they're desperate or surrounded by others doing the same, they choose the easier path.
 
It also happens when systems aren't fair, which makes people lose trust, so they manipulate them for their own gain.

All the moral afflictions that people love to glorify...

I see in this day and age a large source of corruption is from greed, lust of money and power.
People are not in control of themselves , but they think getting control over others will make them feel better and have a 'good life'
Or if they can't have that sense of control over others with power, they want to climb the illusory ladder with money.
'Shop like a billionaire' chinese plastic crap
'gold plate the white house' cheesy no class reality show.
'bling bling dolla dilla bill' glorification of stacks of money in pop and rap
People who do not stop and think long term or deep about themselves tend to glorify and focus only on money. To the detriment of all else.
Then they are rich, perhaps, and still friendless and joyless.
