What Do The Navy's Ship-Launched Missiles Actually Cost
#1
When I see reports like this it does not make me proud nor does it make me sleep better at night. You could fund all kinds of black projects with the insane pricing of America's defense by the MIC that Ike warned us about.

Million + dollar missiles to down a $2000 drone fired by a less than third world country. Boy howdy we showed them !! Some of the ships with VLS missiles cells have to return to port to be rearmed as rearming can not be done at sea.. That is gonna work if we get into a shooting war with China (NOT).

$80,000 dollar an hour operating cost for many of our military aircraft not even counting the price of the hardware/aircraft to begin with kinda makes me sick at the waste I see. I am sure it is more now but the average cost to lease from an agent (make a profit) for a 737-800 was 11,000 an hour and the airbus was around $8000..  According to Boeing, under regular conditions, the 777-200LR should cost around $9,750.00/hour to operate, with the 777-300ER at a cost of $10,250.00/hour to operate. In a two-class configuration, this is around $32.39/hour per seat for the -200LR and $27.12/hour per seat for the -300ER.

Yet they figure per hour cost of our fighters and bombers are in excess or $80,000 and sometimes much more ...
Quote:Most of America’s warships set sail packed full of missiles. These include surface-to-air missiles to shoot down everything from drones to ballistic missiles, surface-to-surface missiles used to attack targets on land and sea, and even rocket-delivered torpedoes to defend against prowling submarines. These weapons can be depleted quickly during combat operations, as we have seen in and around the Red Sea recently. So, how much do each of those missiles really cost? We dug into the Pentagon’s budget documents to find out.

1965 thru 1968 Vietnam 224 Aim 7 sparrow missiles were fired at Migs with only 20 hits at $125,000 (1960s dollars) a shot. Ask anyone who flew over North Vietnam about the great AIM 7 missiles they were given to protect themselves and engage the enemy with. That is one of the reasons future fighters were given gun pods or were equipped/manufactured with guns.

Defense contractors and politicians with kick-backs and revolving doors evidently see this as not a problem... Well I do but alas I am powerless to cause a real audit of where all the money goes and how it is spent..
