Watch out for that building
#1
Right now in New York City a high rise building that's partly under construction on 42nd St; Downtown Manhattan is most likely going to come tumbling down!
The local fire dispatch got the call about two support beams that had buckled at some point before 8am.
All humans have been evacuated a safe distance away.

They apparently are going to determine when it is safe to enter to put up emergency trusses. I am not on the up and up when it come to any of that, but with my uneducated guess, I am not sure I would trust any of that building to continue to go on.
Hopefully someone smarter than I can chime in with some details about this process and what we can expect to happen with this.

NYC Building evacuated

Former Pfizer building. Can it even be stabilized? What kind of timeline are we looking at here? From the article:
Quote:A structural column buckled on the 21st floor and additional structural issues were subsequently discovered
The high-rise, at 235 E. 42nd St., is on the corner of East 42nd Street and Second Avenue and is the former headquarters of the Pfizer pharmaceutical company and is under conversion to residential use.
Officials say that caused the 21st to 26st floors of the 37-story building to start caving under the stress.

If the building were to give way, it would "not be a total collapse, it would be more of a localized collapse," Esposito added.
Every worker is accounted for and there are no injuries reported, police say.
The building is topped out at 37 floors and as more infrastructure was added to the floors above the 21st floors, the load-bearing columns became more stressed, officials say.
Mamdani said the current frozen zone is set up from First and Third avenues between 40th to 45th Streets. Those streets are closed to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Seems quite a precarious situation. Keep us updated.

I cropped this aerial view from the article so I could upload it.

NYC Building evacuated

I was watching a newscaster interview people on the street and she actually spoke with a structural engineer who had to evacuate his hotel in that area. The engineer said it was most likely due to the torrential rains and strong wind gusts (downforce) the day or a couple days before, that is most likely responsible for the buckling, in his opinion.

But, still, one has wonder what materials they are using that can't handle those forces.
"The only journey is the one within."
