The six stages of decline
#1
IMO there is much truth in the following video as times change yet people seem to remain the same

Quote:All empires repeat the same cycle, says 20th-century historian John Glubb. He observed that for the past 3000 years every civilization has followed the same 6 stages before decline—what are they?

Oligarchs and or the few elites who direct society are always inevitable as true power to the people seems to be a myth.

it is a good thing then that the usa learned the lesson from britain and decided not to become an empire, instead just lending a helping hand to international coalitions and working to spread freedom and prosperity throughout the world.

lol sorry i am feeling somewhat sarcasming there

Interesting a quick search shows Glubb Pasha listed seven stages?

The Age of Pioneers (Outburst)
The Age of Conquests
The Age of Commerce
The Age of Affluence
The Age of Intellect
The Age of Decadence
The Age of Decline & Collapse

I wonder though if globalism does invalidate the effects of some of those... the fungibility of power at international scale, and all that

.......Even if we have to bomb your cities into rubble to do it.

There are empires that call themselves empires,
empires that insist they are not empires,
empires that demand to be declared empires,
and ones that could not care less what you or I think...

The are proto-empires, quasi-empires, faux empires, bullshit empires, garbage empires...

The singular concern of mine is: INTENTION

But "empire" is a 'notional' title.  A 'described' status.  Not a thinking entity... not a person

People... if you could say it about a person... you can make the same general observation about an empire.... doesn't that allude to something we should consider?

Humans are compulsive modellers... and then we very much like to advertise...
Samples abound.

The last things to call themselves Empire I can think of were the British Empire and the Third Reich but ironically enough in German, Reich does not really mean Empire but rather Realm or Dominion.
It doesn't technically have connotations of active territorial conquest per say, just an area in a line on a map.
And the British Empire according to the wikipedia says until 1997, but I think we can all agree in actual day to day life it was over at some point in the 50s?

The American MIC plays at Empire Building even now but we call it what, peacekeeping right.
