The no nose of the Sphinx
#1
I seem to remember being told that the nose of the Sphinx was destroyed by one of Napoleon's artillery shells as a form of target practice. Well after all these years of me believing that fake news the truth has finally been reveled and I accept this to be a better story than Napoleon's army doing the deed !

Remember how ISIS went though several mid-eastern countries destroying just about every ancient statue they could find that had any kind of religious implication (or not) ??

Nothing has changed in the last few thousand years as one of the Arabs named Mohamed (pick one as many are named that) decided he would prove statues or carved images have no power. I could have told him that and saved him the trouble but I might have lost my head ??

You dont need to pick which Muhammad.

As it tells you which one right there in the first video, "Muhammad Sa'im al-Dahr" at around 20 seconds mark.

It's still up for debate as to who was really responsible for the beak's demise.

Historians are not exactly certain and other causes like erosion or later vandalism.

Could also have contributed to the loss of the nose.

Any of the Mohamad's that are chosen that led armies will no doubt be zealots, so it isn't a surprise. Letting them know of their false doctrine and zealotry, and pointless statue destruction would indeed lose one their head, even today still.  Lol

From the Khitat of al-Maqrizi:
Quote:In our time, a figure named Sheikh Muhammad Sa'im al-Dahr, one of the Sufis of the convent of Dervishes founded by Sa'id al-Su'ada, set off in 780 (1378-1379 CE) to combat and destroy superstitions. He went to the pyramids and mutilated the face of Abu al-Hul, which has remained in that state down to the present. Since then, the sand has largely invaded the territory of Giza, and the inhabitants of this province attribute this encroachment of sand into their lands to the mutilation of the statue.

Nah, the Egyptians didn't design stuff to succumb to age.

Will be interesting if what happened to the Sphinx's nose is ever definitively determined. But gut feeling says it wasn't the "We need it to last just long enough to get past warranty" that runs the world today.

Intriguing, the nose is the identifier. Sub for later.
