The Nicotine conspiracy, ancestral diet-some MDs say nicotine is good for the mind
#1
Could a person be acclimated to nicotine because their ancestors used to smoke?

Maybe this thread should be in General Conspiracies because the better off a person's ancestors were, the more likely they were to smoke and the more they smoked.

There are various MDs on Youtube shorts claiming nicotine has significant benefits for mental and physical health as well as being a better stimulant than coffee.

So long as it isn't smoked.  Smoking seems to still be out.

A interesting read about nicotine and it's use by shamen is the cosmic serpent by Jonathan Narby

Nicotinic receptors are very ancient things and a natural part of the human system that did not evolve recently, so no, they were there before our ancestors lit up.

It would make absolutely no sense to claim nicotinc receptors evolved in the few centuries since the discovery of the New World and tobacco.

I don't think the presence of these receptors is the whole picture though.

Most likely the limited use of tobacco as a medicine is why it was safe to use. Unlike today where people will smoke five or six cigarettes a day for no real health reasons. There are some health issues that can be used lessened by smoking a single cigarette a day, but again that isn't how people normally use them today.

Then you have the major issue of using a pipe that is long enough to cool the smoke down vs using a simple filter that keeps the smoke temperature higher then both room or body temperature can also be part of the issues here.

I'm not going to get into the issues of chemicals that are added in to commercial tobacco products since a person can grow their own plants in most places.

It's pronounced 'Shaman'.

The specific tobacco you're referring to is called 'Mapacho'. I strongly recommend purchasing and smoking it. Still to this day, it will bring the Ayahuasca back out.....

It has many curative qualities, even against COVID . . .

Nicotinic receptors are fascinating in how if you fill them up, you can  inhibits infections to take hold in the lungs.
Similarly ACE angiotensen receptors being filled by things like blood pressure medication , can also inhibit infections from taking place in the lungs.
There was a lot of anecdotal evidence for people not getting infected with COVID in their lungs due to being smokers or being on BP meds.

That said, combusting a material and inhaling the smoke directly can never be healthy.  Tar, etc.

I think our ancestors largely had ambient smoke like incenses, and also inhaled powders like snuff.
Lots of snuff found in mummies.

An interesting point I see here is that the antipsychotic drug chlorpromazine (brand name: Thorazine) does not cause nearly as much drowsiness in tobacco smokers as it does in non tobacco smokers.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7060333/

Does that mean tobacco smokers are used to the effects of Thorazine, and they can therefore “take its hit” better than non tobacco smokers?
