I can’t see EV’s being functional after an EMP. Also it depends on the power of said EMP. Which I seriously doubt Mythbusters has access too.
your right about Faraday cages though, however the majority of electrical devices and even the poorly maintained national grid don’t use such.
Here I’ll paste in what I added earlier in case you missed it.
If a similar event were to occur today, it could lead to the destruction of transformers and other critical infrastructure, potentially causing global blackouts that could last for years. The economic impact could be severe, with daily domestic economic losses totaling $41.5 billion and additional supply chain disruptions of $7 billion.
Not to mention all the non protected electronic devices that would be utterly fried in such and event. What’s the use in a protected mobile phone anyway when there is no signal and nobody to ring/message. No internet, no server farms. (Though I seriously hope someone had the foresight to house them in Faraday cages)
it would be chaos regardless. We are so hopelessly ill prepared I even wonder if this could actually be the often mentioned Great Reset” we keep hearing about..
If on the other hand the earth’s magnetic field is failing, this would be the least if it.

EVs will die and be left due to inability to charge them. Transformers are solid state components emersed in a caustic oil for head dissipation. An EMP wouldn't do anything to them physically. Integrated circuits that are powered up at the time of the event would be the most critically affected. Most electronics like servers and whatnot, that are susceptible to such things as EMPs, are grounded and bonded and will have little to no negative affects. The MythBusters had access to an EMP generator they use on the B-52 to test its nuclear survivability LRUs commonly referred to as SV boxes, I have literally witnessed complex circuits come out the other end just fine during this test. Its the best anyone has on hand other than an actual bomb. Tinker AFB actually has one of them and I've seen it in action. The most affected items will be personal communication devices, smart watches, exposed circuitry and so on. This whole "we'd be back in the caveman days crap" is just that, crap. It would set us back to the 80s.

Oh man, transformers I know are robust generally which why I highlighted them, but they are not immune to strong pulsed electromagnetic radiation. For starters the main component is coiled wire, the same stuff in electric motors and so many other things. An EMP would bypass the circuit protection and short circuit the coils. Meaning these coils are then knackered and need replacement.
You obviously haven’t read what I previously wrote so I’ll highlight the relevant bit to your points below.
“If a similar event were to occur today, it could lead to the destruction of transformers and other critical infrastructure, potentially causing global blackouts that could last for years. The above is part of an article I quoted to another poster.

If you’re so knowledgeable on this topic, you must have understood what I was trying to get at in my OP. Instead you downplayed by banging on about the telegraph system.
Why didn’t you just say “Everything would be toast, not just transformers” in the first place?
Do you think I don’t realise that? I trained and worked in Electrical Engineering so don’t talk down to me as if I have no clue.
I am not trying to talk down to you. I just pointed out your historical inaccuracies. Your op has mistakes that you failed to understand.
I have a small collection of telegraph equipment so I know about the Carrington event in 1859 and the history of that time.
And as to the Myth Busters, that really doesn't apply to a Carrington type event which continues to produce EMP for days.

https://www.google.com/search?q=Carringt...gws-wiz-hp Well I’m glad to hear you weren’t talking down to me, :) The OP was written off the top of my head. I just wanted to get it out there before I forget about it all together! My mistake for not saying so originally my apologies.
As for Mythbusters I didn’t bring it up in the first place, if I did I was addressing Inspector who did.

The 80s??
Im not sure I can fit into my parachute pants anymore...
Not to mention, Carrington was a CME, not an EMP
A Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) and an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) are distinct phenomena that can both disrupt electronics, but they differ in origin, mechanism, and impact.

Well what are waiting for? Set a few off!
