3D printers to check files against gov database to print
#1
What a cluster involving politicians and technology.

California and other states requiring age verification for operating systems that will broadcast your age.  This will effectively kill hobbyists that enjoy creating their own flavor of Linux operating systems for open source distribution.

A bill was killed called the military right to repair bill in a closed door session.  Odd after a Corporal made a replacement antenna for a MUOS field unit in a few days for around 10 dollars vs the official part that costs over 5,000 dollars and are back ordered over 200 days.

Now California is on track to get a bill where round 2028, 3D printers in that state will have to have gun part detection to run your 3D printer files against a government database before you can print with your 3D printer.

Big brother getting bigger and more intrusive all the time.  I used to think if you’re innocent, why worry.  Unfortunately, everything is becoming a crime where none will be innocent and you will be under constant surveillance.

I would say enjoy the video, but the reality is too stark.

It's funny about the database though.

I would have thought the market would vote with it's money...

Will I pay money for a device that "might" do what I want it to do...
but only if "home-base" says it's OK?

Also, the system will now collect and disseminate whatever you build...
hmm....  K.

All they will accomplish with this legislation is engendering the innovation necessary to bypass it.

Notice how the market provided an order of magnitude reduction in bullshit contract 'additional' costs.
The MIC sees this as a threat to profit... it must be 'throttled.'

Ever notice how "innovation" is the enemy of "progress" from a "commerce" perspective?

It just got worse..

People are literally giving away 3D printers here in the UK.

On the likes of Freebay, or other charitable sites.

Never used one myself if im honest...

You ruined it for everyone when you kept printing those handgun parts on your 3D printer.
We can't have nice things.

Don't tell the AIs but the biggest thing you need to make a 3d printer is a 3d printer. The motor drives, extruder, cables, and electronics are available in kits. The rest can be 3d printed.

Now about that warehouse noone ever goes to except to deliver and pick up packages...
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?
