Synchronicities in therapy

Using Synchronicity for Emotional Growth

Quote:
  • Observing symbols and coincidences can help patients process grief, anxiety, and loss.
  • Synchronicity-informed therapy opens space for curiosity, wonder, and inner growth.
  • Meaningful coincidences can guide actions and support emotional healing in therapy.

Quote:Depth psychotherapy informed by synchronicity provides a wider and potentially less judgmental lens for understanding and conceptualizing what patients bring to therapy by considering how synchronicities may influence their life
...
...Moments like these can serve as meaningful coincidences that foster self-awareness, emotional healing, deeper connections between ourselves and the world around us, and, for some, spiritual growth.

Synchronicities open our minds to think flexibly and symbolically. There’s space for something new to emerge. But also, synchronicities develop our capacity to tolerate, and even appreciate, the all-too-frequent irrationalities and paradoxes in life.

Verry interesting stuff, the lady in the story followed an angel and found healing and a lover.

Do you start synchronicities or do you simply look for and follow them? Are there influences, presences, signs, forces etc. in this world that exists to steer you on a path, or do you have to take action first?

Has any synchronicities helped you?

On long road trips I have let animals I see lead me to places to camp, based on the synchronicity assumption that whatever is reading my random thoughts at the time is reading theirs, and we are all part of the great web of life. They have let me to some beautiful places.

This is what I read in my adventures learning about psychology:

"However, most scientists today consider the idea that coincidences are meaningful to be non-scientific. Instead, many argue that factors such as confirmation bias offer a more compelling explanation: People seek out information to support their ideas and ignore information that challenges them."

Synchronicity | Psychology Today

I personally do not look for nor follow synchronicities. However, I try to look for the deeper meanings in my relationship with others and in life in general. I try to educate myself for what may be deeper truths or a broader understanding beyond what may be my limited scope. We all have limited scopes.

I would think the first action to take would be to get on the path of self-exploration and self-realization before bringing into one's life other experiences that are controversial among the professional psychologists.

I mean "and ignore information that challenges them."

First action to take for what or what? not connected to the topic "I would think the first action to take "

coincidence(n.)
c. 1600, "exact correspondence in substance or nature," from French coincidence, from coincider, from Medieval Latin coincidere, literally "to fall upon together," from assimilated form of Latin com "with, together" (see com-) + incidere "to fall upon" (from in- "upon" + combining form of cadere "to fall," from PIE root *kad- "to fall").

With what does coincidence fall?

I used to find 4 leaf clovers all the time when I saw UFOs in my early 20s, just lights in the sky. Looking back it was somewhat like a state of pronoia which made me more open to experience and possibilities. I'd say it was a positive experience for me and heavily influenced the way I think and perceive.

I've also seen synchronicities absolutely plague the mental health of those who suffer bad anxiety and/or other psychological issues too.

I'd say the risks probably outweigh the positives if there was a definite way to initiate the experience. I'm not too sure how you'd go about doing that without altering the mental state of a person.

" anxiety and/or other psychological" are reactions, something happened..they are not just in a state. Triggers are normal

The risks would be making the people relive bad memories, or what are you referring to? Why must the synchronicity be bad, there is no rule that says it has to be linked to whatever symbolism triggers trauma. Like in the OP, the lady found love and healing

What I was trying to relay was first figure it all out that which is within your orbit. Then expand outward after those issues are understood and mastered if you want to explore without carrying baggage.

“It’s dark because you are trying too hard. Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly. Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply. Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them. I was so preposterously serious in those days, such a humorless little prig. Lightly, lightly – it’s the best advice ever given me. When it comes to dying even. Nothing ponderous, or portentous, or emphatic. No rhetoric, no tremolos, no self conscious persona putting on its celebrated imitation of Christ or Little Nell. And of course, no theology, no metaphysics. Just the fact of dying and the fact of the clear light. So throw away your baggage and go forward. There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet, trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair. That’s why you must walk so lightly. Lightly my darling, on tiptoes and no luggage, not even a sponge bag, completely unencumbered.”

Before looking outward for answers, look inward first, explore inward, gain insight inward, know thy self, then venture outward looking for synchronicities with a new outlook.
