Song About Jesus
#1
I have been recording a few cover songs here and there, just some simple one take wonders, with guitar and vocals, usually acoustic, with my iPhone camera covered.

Below is my 2nd Bad Religion cover, Dearly Beloved.

IMO the song is about Jesus.

I’m pretty sure famous rock bands are being fed at least some of their lyrics from occult source(s).  That is one of my conspiracy theories.

Some of the more esoteric lyrics:

I can’t relate to YOU does not mean what it sounds like.

Grab your neighbors skeleton to lean upon is another lyric that should probably get people scratching their heads too.

The Bad Religion logo is quite explicitly Anti-Christ.  But this song is a bit more nuanced than just being pro-Christ or anti-Christ IMO.

Bad Religion was hardcore punk so they had to be anti everything, right? And it paid off for them.

"In accordance with their band name, Bad Religion often takes on what they feel is misguided religious sentiment in their songs, and "American Jesus" flogs the concept of a nation believing it more blessed by God than other countries.

Lead singer Greg Graffin and guitarist Brett Gurewitz wrote the song in response to US President George H. W. Bush's comment that the US would win the Gulf War (the first one) because God is on their side. It's pretty much a satirical view on the general American thought that the United States is the most powerful nation in the world because it is "One nation under God.""

------------

"I can't relate to you" in your song, could mean the not relating goes every which way.

Also regarding their logo, it was specifically chosen to piss off the righteous right at the time. Even still, they claimed to all be atheists at that time. Are they still atheists, who knows?

I'm totally unfamiliar with Bad Religion, so I don't know how this fits their other work.
So just going by this one song:

It's about a preacher who suddenly realizes that he doesn't believe the underlying myth.
Quote:
Dearest in memoriam, set phasers to stun
And grab yourself a neighbor's skeleton to lean upon
Did you know him in life, one filled with regret?
So soon we all forget we ever met

I think the narrating character is misunderstanding the congregation here. He doesn't know if he will be forgotten by the congregants, he's only assuming.

Really. There is a limit to how much one person can know another. It's really very small.

I don't know what kind of congregation is implied here. Just there was a congregation I knew of that was probably better off without the unbelieving preacher who was preaching neo-orthodoxy to people who were totally satisfied with liberal understandings.

Thank you. I should have looked into this more before commenting.

Sometimes I wonder if anti-everything is just simply a good way to make a lot of money as everyone seems to have a beef with something or the other.

I read the lyrics of "American Jesus". Right on.

Now imagine the horror of sitting in a pew in 2003.

Preacher dude (only qualification being another preacher laid hands on him shortly before his release from jail) gets up and says "well you know, the bread and wine are symbols, so today we will do communion in the name of President George W. Bush".

And out of about 40 congregents only one gets up and leaves.

Perhaps using a skeleton (neighbour's?) might serve the purpose better. Imagine putting that skeleton on a cross? I suspect that one congregant won't leave now with more dramatic religious symbolism to be had.

As for one's neighbour's skeleton, to me it simply means that everyone is hiding something that they can't or don't want to deal with, or regret, or have dealt with it and it is now put to rest. Is everyone struggling with something? In this harsh and difficult world, I think so.

It was March 23, 2003, three days after Bush launched the invasion of Iraq. The theme song was "Onward Christian Soldiers".

Why go to a church that eats and drinks damnation unto themselves? as per 1 Cor 11:29

Now I need to take a break. Flashback and whatnot.

And no one got sick. and no one died.
Pretty good evidence that there is no Christ
setting things right.

We are on our own.

Now that my fuse is totally lit
I'll go ahead and write what's bugging me:

Jewish metaphysical superiority as per the Tanya (bible of Chabad) is total bullshit.
Jews are animals just like the rest of humanity.
There is no higher (G.D) connected soul.

Sigh, I will be very surprised if anybody here will be joining me down the Satanic Rock Verses rabbit hole.

Here is the Face of YOU.

I think Jesus wound up regretting his choice to not relate to YOU.

Grab a neighbor’s skeleton to lean upon is a reference to Genesis 3:22 which is often esoterically associated with a Skull and Bones symbol

“Behold the Man has become as one of us, to know good and evil, now lest he THROW OUT HIS HAND, and take from the tree of life, and live forever…”
