I wanted to put this under folklore but there isn't a forum on this this so I placed it in Paranormal.
I am not sure if this was covered on ATS - apologies if it has.
Gef was a talking mongoose that allegedly gained fame back in the 1930s. The story goes that Gef was discovered by a family called the Spencers who lived on the Isle of Man. Apparently he could talk, mimic voices, and even do a bit of conjuring. The Spencers claimed Gef would chat with them, tell them stories, and even help out around the house. He also had a dark side killing neighbour's farm animals if the neighbour upset the Spencers.
Gef's tale has been the subject of much debate over the years. Some reckon it was all a big hoax with the Spencers pulling the wool over people's eyes. Others believe Gef was genuine and that the Spencers really did have a supernatural mongoose on their hands. Either way Gef's legend has stuck and he's still known today as the 'Dalby Spook' or 'Manx Mongoose'. His story has been the subject of books, films, and even TV documentaries.
The YT video below is from The Tape Library. It appears well researched.
