Wow, thank you for adding all of this. He lived an odd life.
He painted a lot of clocks that looked like bacon being cooked too. He might have seen himself as a pig.
Yeah, knowing more about his childhood and life certainly helps to see his art in a different light.
It makes me wonder if he thought he was the pig, or he deemed women as pigs or associated with pigs.
Just look at all his war posters depicting women as carriers of syphilis and gonorrhea warning men to keep away from them; as if women didn't get it from men too.

It seems the pig is the man and he is the carrier, and the woman is with the pig.

That was my first interpretation as well, but knowing a little more about his family life, perhaps the pig symbolizes disease to be gotten from sex with women (?) - the interpretations could be endless here. The women in the 'with pig' pieces have the women touching the pig with their genitalia.
"Dali’s misogyny was another infamous fact of his biography. In various periods of his time, he spoke of hating his own mother or having a phobia of female genitalia that resulted in repulsion towards all women. Some Dali experts say this phobia occurred because of Dali’s father, who filled their house with books on venereal diseases in an attempt to warn his son about the dangers of sex. The action had its effect: Dali developed at once revulsion and obsession with anything remotely sexual."

Again, I like knowing about his personal life as in a list of facts to help me think how I 'take' the art, or understand it personally, but articles like that you shared a second time, smack of judgement and cancel culture, when I can't even be sure it's accurate.

The article claims Dali said all that about himself.
In the video below Dali himself say his eccentric behaviour is to show the more important and tragic part of his life; algorithmic curve in cauliflower and in the horn of rhinocerous; symbol of chastity is the most power in modern times; etc. etc. etc.

Yes, claims; I would love to see the sources for this woman's statements. There is a lot of allegedly and strong emotional language in that 'article.'
Its very clickbaity and dictatorial ' Almost Ruined ' Cruel toFascist Sympathizer (Allegedly)' etcit smacks of bad scholarship and emotion.
To make one point, it only talks about his wife , it doesn't talk about anyone else.
I will have to listen to the interview sometime.
I have read both his autobiographies and am currently enjoying his novel, and nothing there smacks of someone who beat people for fun or reveled in torture like this article seems to suggest.
I have to question bringing 'charges' of this type in a discussion of his artwork. Once again, its not even related to his influences or artistic output.
Very tired of progressive attempts at cancel culture nonsense.

I'll check it out, I just wonder by your posts if you are advocating for not enjoying his art or something. I am for freedom of thought and speech and art no matter what.

Check out this video too because more is explained as to what kind of person he was perceived to be by others.
Why wonder about my posts about Dali's artwork when I explained my intention previously?
