Safe town?
#5
Well yeah, it's been declared a Safe(ish) State!

Remember, we'd (State concensus) rather be delusional clowns than get a pat on the back for helping.

Quote:SB 54, also known as the California Values Act, significantly limits the involvement of state and local law enforcement in federal immigration enforcement activities. It restricts actions like investigating, detaining, or arresting individuals for immigration purposes, and prevents the transfer of individuals to federal custody, with limited exceptions. The law also prohibits the use of state and local resources for immigration enforcement and restricts the sharing of information about individuals with federal immigration authorities.

(Attempted) Safe County to adhere to SB54:

https://www.cbs8.com/article/news/local/...2a2a91324c

Quote:San Diego County Sheriff Kelly Martinez will not follow a new county policy that aims to limit cooperation between her department and federal immigration agencies like ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement).

The policy, approved last month by the County Board of Supervisors, requires a federal judge to sign off before the Sheriff's Office can transfer an inmate to ICE. It also prohibits cooperation on lower-level federal civil immigration enforcement, such as cases where an immigrant overstays their visa.

It really depends how much the local PD's want to do.

The Sheriff's department defies it. They can't be seen participating in raids, but they will forward names of undocumented migrants with a criminal record to ICE.

Strangely, the 25 immigrants they most recently transfered to ICE custody happened in 2023.

The Sheriff patrols rural county and the cities of Del Mar, Encinitas, Imperial Beach, Lemon Grove, Poway, San Marcos, Santee, Solana Beach and Vista.

PD Breakdown:

SDPD - won't assist/restricts ICE from facilities
National City PD - won't assist/restricts ICE from facilities
Chula Vista PD - won't assist/restricts ICE from facilities
Escondido PD - won't assist/restricts ICE from facilities
Carlsbad PD - Limited/restricts ICE from facilites
Oceanside PD - won't assist/restricts ICE from facilities

Of The Biggest 7 departments, only one has spoken in defiance of California's definance.

And now people are freaking out because all the immigration lawyers and advocates who are citizens are getting "unintentional" deportation letters. Which are being seen as an "oopsie" way of harrassing immigration advocates and intimidating them.

As far as how good that's all doing.

Quote:In San Diego County, there were 47,928 people held in ICE detention as of April 6, 2025. Of these, 22,249 (46.4%) had no criminal record.

"Why are 46% of the people held without criminal record if Trump is only targeting criminals?"

Those are the questions that make the local majority the "clowns" that influence police departments to not assist ICE.

It's too bad the 22,249 aren't unborn fetuses. Then people would have no problem with my state using its rights to protect them.
