Hi folks,
Ever heard of 'mirror organisms'? They are essentially organisms which should not exist within nature as their molecules are arranged in a manner that is entirely opposite to the nature we are accustomed to, in terms of how the molecules of absolutely everything living on Earth are arranged, chemically speaking.
'Reverse Chirality' is the official term for the manner in which such organisms would be different from natural organisms. Their molecules would be created in exactly the same shape as molecules in existing organisms here on Earth, but the arrangement of the atoms would be directly opposite to the arrangement of atoms that we're familiar with, hence 'mirror organisms', it's like putting the atomic structure up against a mirror, sideways-on, & replicating what we see.
Below is an article which explains some of the horrifying risks that could unfold if we are to press ahead with research into these potentially deadly organisms. The main gist is that they could wipe out all life on Earth, being the ultimate invasive species, because nothing in nature would ever have encountered them before, and nature may not have the available 'immunological' tools with which to combat the threat. So essentially, if the spores from a mould that was generated using mirror chirality methods of molecular construction were to leak into the world, then it could replicate as the ultimate invasive species & turn the 'Upside Down' from 'Stranger Things', into the reality of the Earth that we live in! Imagine all those tasty mould spores floating through the atmosphere, attracted to any life that lives, raiding it for nutrients with which it can profligate itself throughout the world even further. Those flamethrowers would come in handy! And what if an attraction in the mutated mould was such that it wanted to bond with human DNA because it has rudimentary intelligence (many people suspect plants & especially fungi may have some form of intellect) - if it decided to merge with the human body & manipulate the brain of the human host (as many fungi already do on a smaller scale, such as cordyceps mind control over ants - research that horror story if you dare), we could end up with real world examples of the horrifying villain from Stranger Things, known in the show as 'VECNA' (Henry Creel, originally, before he was infected by the spores in the 'Upside Down' world).
In a sense, the very idea of the 'Upside Down' from 'Stranger Things' is an adventure in Reverse Chirality, because it is supposed to be a nightmare mirror world directly mapping to our own world. This is getting too spooky for me, so I'll just leave you with the link & allow you to form your own conclusions...
