They say you don't know what you've got until it's gone, so I got rid of everything so I could see what I have.

– Stephen Wright

Great thread, here's my favourite one from Albert:

• "If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?"

Albert Einstein.

It's great for pithy one-liners. You can even compose your own pieces if you want; I do that a lot too. Here's another one by AE:

"Reality is an illusion, albeit a persistent one."

"No good deed goes unpunished", or more specifically...Eudo..."left no good deed unpunished, no bad one unrewarded".

- Walter Map (12th century, De nugis curialium)

One I've always liked because it is so true, but it's not really a "quote" per se, although it is often used as one...

"All men will rise to the level of their own incompetence"

- Laurence Peter (1970)

edit - I have oft been known to say..."RESIST the Peter Principle!!"

That's funny. I was in Walgreens the other day and the guy in front of me checking out was going on about some positive act having a negative outcome, and I was trying to remember: "No good deed goes...".; then it came to me right after he walked out the door.

Ah yes great stuff mate - got to love old Albert as he was even warning us about the dangers of legacy corporate media all those years ago.

As for your quote it also reminded me of this great one from Dick.

Another one by AE just came to mind that remains quite relevant and ever-lingering in this contemporary day and age:

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

I had to look that one up though, otherwise it would've been paraphrased all to hell.

I'm not a great fan of quotes (or supposed quotes, as some are fake), but here's one of my favourites, from the movie "Street Fighter", as it shows perceptions of events are relative.

Quote:For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Speaking of 'fake' quotes, probably the one I see most frequently is...

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."

- Incorrectly attributed to Albert Einstein

Einstein never said this, and the phrase didn't even show up until the early 80's (long after his death).
