Prada on the moon
#1
Quote:MILAN — Axiom Space showed off the flight design of the Artemis spacesuit it is developing for NASA with the assistance of Prada.

At a briefing at the International Astronautical Congress here Oct. 16, Axiom and Prada revealed details about the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) suit that Axiom is creating for use by NASA on lunar landing missions starting with Artemis 3.

“Today marks a significant step on the path towards returning humans to the surface of the moon,” said Russell Ralston, executive vice president of extravehicular activity at Axiom, at the briefing.

Here is the new hotness:

Now I know this forum has lots of people who believe in the moon landing stuff, that freemasons played golf there, etc., but what is really interesting is that Prada is now involved. They were saying that over 30 people there were working on this design. Perhaps we'll see a rebrand of the astronaut stuff in the next few years; the Prada people are probably very smart in getting ahead of the curve in costume design. What's really needed is also a sort of undersuit leotard layer, for those in-vehicle video blogs. Something skintight and frictionless, to inspire a new generation. Space is really such a boomer thing; it must really be fun to help sculpt the dreams of a new generation. I wonder if the new movies will still keep the old helmet bubble look? Really need to do something better there. And of course, moon boots.

Please note the "advanced technology" these new suits use. It's all just so inspiring!

They left out the best bit. The catheter is automated and self lubricating.

Doubt spacewalking is ever going to be anything but uncomfortable and dorky looking in a suite.  Powerarmor would be something though.

The first designer they picked had problems complying with standards.

** Didn't want to put too much effort into this.

Quote:Artemis III will fly the first woman and first person of color to the Moon. This flight will be the culmination of rigorous testing and more than two million miles accumulated in space on NASA’s deep space transportation systems during Artemis I and II.

On this mission, Orion and its crew will travel to the Moon, this time docking directly with a Human Landing System (HLS) in lunar orbit, which will take the astronauts to the Moon’s surface.

The agency’s powerful Space Launch System rocket will launch four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft for their multi-day journey to lunar orbit. There, two crew members will transfer to the HLS for the final leg of their journey to the surface of the Moon.

Typical NASA. Sending the first women and person of color to the Moon, and what do they do? Cram them in a lumpy balloon that makes them look like white men. So much for progress.

Not to worry though. I heard the was going to be a minor delay, but NASA delayed that. In fact, in just a few short months, things will be back on track and the delay can proceed as scheduled. That will give them plenty of time for a redesign, as long as there are no delays in testing. I'm hopeful!

I was going to think this was a Hugo Boss joke, then I remembered Wernher Von Braun.
