The giant theory is easy to believe. The average height 2,000 years ago was about 5'6", so imagine when someone like Shaq is born.
Hell, look at the NBA. All guys well over 6" and to the people at the time, they would seem like giants.
The average American male is 5'9" and the average NBA player is 6'7".
