No one will have access to the digital world under an assumed identity-- like what we currently have on DI

Except the controllers
They can assume to be whoever they want to be

I suppose people can opt- out if black markets are allowed to exist

They control the money printers

Societies are being herded into the new pens without putting up much resistance

There's not a lot of discussion about how we lose most of our freedoms not by force but by our willingness to hand it over

How will they pay the backhanders without untraceable currency?

You don't get to opt out buddy.

That's the point.

Opting out just paints a target on your back.

Freedom is as illusory as security if we are honest.

But it's an illusion that the greater part of humanity cannot live without.

Society would not be able to function without a measure of freedom being the colour of the day.

Same as it would not be able to operate without gray and black markets.

We would never get anything done for a start.

You'd think with their background they would immediately take the conversation to a less public medium. So many questions... Sloppiness seems unlikely given their background.

What to make of this then? They are so sure they are above the law they just don't care? Thiel knows (???) that encrypted communication is just wishful thinking?

Or they also used encrypted communication for stuff they really didn't want to become public and whatever is left unencrypted serves a purpose if and when it becomes public...

Yeah it definitely seems that he surrounded himself with a wall of power

Knowing I am a prisoner in a cage doesn't make it anymore palatable

Not for me, anyway

I see a cage as something to be broken free from

Others see a home

We are not the same

Put it this way, we are both as free as we think we are.  Spin

And the thing about that cage, is that most people value stability over freedom, and will happily climb back in.

If you choose to interact with other people, you choose to follow rules.

Life is a cage, of the cradle to the grave sorts.

We are all more similar than different, but who the hell would wish to exist in a place where we are all the same?

That really would be hell on Earth.

Yes, I agree, we are both as free as we believe we are

And when you want a lot more than what this life has to offer

The world feels like a tiny fish bowl

When you want the stars, your aim has to be even higher

I realize the cost for freedom is pricier than what most are willing to pay

But from my pov we are already in Hell on Earth

I'm already dead

Therefore, I've got nothing left to lose

Life is what we make it i suppose.

And we are here for a good time, not a long time.

As to what we have to lose.

A hell of a lot more as we seem to get older is my experience.

We accumulate baggage as we run the human race.

Is it any wonder, really, that we grow partial and attached to the people and things we have around us?

Im apt to ponder, probably not.

Yeah it's like the typical narcissistic abuser's claim: If only you could see everything I do for you! You need me! If it wasn't for me, you'd have someone worse! You don't know how good you have it!

Manipulative crypto-authoritarian elitist bullshit.

I'll take things a certain politician may say for 100 points.  Spin

My perspective is an insignificant drop lost in a sea of billions of perspectives

One relentless thought swimming against a stream of mediocrity and conformity

It take a lot to reach this perception

Hours, years, decades pondering and meditating on such ideas

Soul searching in the dark

Not an easy ride but once you're locked in to the 'thought train'

There's no going back

Nope, only forward.
