Same as pierced neeps mate. ;)

Metallic, and kind of like iron.

The piercing, not the person. Saint2

I have indeed, i think my mum used to give me them to teeth on(might explain a lot) when i was a baby.

Not something that would be done in this day of age i should add. LoL

You must have had something metallic in your mouth before and had that taste.

Never eaten a piece of Wrigley's gum, and accidentally forgot to remove the foil wrapper, and it touches a filling.

That taste/feeling.

What's a Pica?

Yes, I've had cutlery (steel) and gum wrapper taste (foil) but I have never tasted my house keys (made from a mix of nickel, silver and brass). I've never had a silver spoon in my mouth, just saying. lol

Pica is a mental condition where people want to eat/swallow metal etc.

Never give a kid house keys/car keys to play with?

Maybe it's a generation thing.

To be honest, it's not advisable, now i come to think of it. LoL

As to the "Pica" yeah, i should have picked up on that.

My little nephew, who's nonverbal and autistic, has the condition and had to have his stomach pumped a few times.

Maybe wanting to taste metal is more common that I think it is, kids putting their tongues on metal poles (I did that once in the Winter to see if it would stick, it did), fetishes where people lick doorknobs, and as you point out kids exploring their world including tasting.

The most extreme example was Michel Lotito, aka Monsieur Mangetout, who I remember from my childhood...

Wow.

"Doctors determined that Lotito also had a thick lining in his stomach and intestines which allowed his consumption of sharp metal without suffering injury.[sup][5][/sup] Lotito also had digestive juices that were unusually powerful, meaning that he could digest the unusual materials. Soft foods, such as bananas, gave him heartburn, specifically when he had metal in his stomach"
