Congratulations to the all-female crew on a successful trip and you for sure have and will inspire young girls and women to be adventurous and brave.

And congratulations to Blue Origin, the new kid on the space tourism block.

I too would kiss the sandy desert ground if I was able to do the same trip and return safe.

"Key Aspects of the Overview Effect:
  • Awe and Transcendence: Many astronauts report feeling a sense of awe and even self-transcendence when seeing Earth from space. Sense of Unity: The experience can foster a deeper connection to humanity and a sense of belonging to a larger, global community. Fragility of Earth: The perspective from space highlights the delicate nature of Earth's atmosphere and ecosystems. Cognitive Shift: The overview effect can alter an astronaut's perception of their own identity and their relationship to the planet.
    Increased Environmental Awareness:
  • Some studies suggest that the overview effect can lead to increased pro-environmental behaviors.
Origins and Research:
  • The term "Overview Effect" was coined by space philosopher Frank White.
  • White interviewed astronauts to explore this phenomenon and its impact on their thinking and feelings.
Researchers continue to study the overview effect, including its potential effects on learning and behavior.
  • Studies have even investigated whether VR simulations can induce a similar overview effect experience.
In Summary: The Overview Effect is a powerful, transformative experience that can shift an individual's perspective and understanding of Earth and humanity. It has been linked to a range of positive outcomes, including increased environmental awareness and a stronger sense of global identity."

William Shatner's overview effect:

"I was crying," Shatner told NPR. "I didn't know what I was crying about. I had to go off some place and sit down and think, what's the matter with me? And I realized I was in grief."

All Blue Origin flights inspire some one, some where, some how.

Conspiracy theory at mark 7:45.

It is also interesting to learn why Gayle chose to take this flight, it was to face her fear of flying. Again, women showing others their bravery and hopefully inspiring.

Chicago women in STEM celebrate all-female flight into space:

Quote:“When you look at this crew, you start to look at some of these other very experienced astronauts, these courageous women, very smart women, and think ‘I could be more like them. That would be awesome,’” Nichols said.

Elsa Soto, director of equity and inclusion in engineering programs at the University of Illinois Chicago, said this is a moment of celebration and awareness for gender equity in STEM, but it is only the start of a conversation that needs to be had.

“The challenge here is ensuring that visibility translates into real opportunities, especially for youth from underrepresented communities who need more than inspiration,” Elsa Soto, director of equity and inclusion in engineering programs at the University of Illinois Chicago, said of the Blue Origin mission."

Inspiration abounds!

The inspiration of this all-female flight is far and wide.

Veteran astronaut describes what it's really like up there and why and how this historical all-female tourist mission will inspire girls. (Mark 6:00)  People like him have the insight and understanding, not many else do.

It takes bravery, that's for sure. As for their training, well what is involved in handling g forces?

AI: "During launch and re-entry of a space shuttle, astronauts experience G-forces ranging from 3 to 6 g. This means they feel a force three to six times greater than Earth's gravity. These G-forces can cause physiological effects like blackout and g-LOC, necessitating the use of G-suits to manage blood flow and prevent these issues, according to Wikipedia."

I'll take what veteran astronauts have to say and not newcaster's and others who have an agenda or negative narrative to get out there.

About those kickass space suits:

"The scientist noted that she thinks traditional space suits need "some improvements when it comes to gender."
"I had the opportunity to train with a NASA suit technician before this flight, and what I can tell you is that while those suits are impressive, they're not necessarily custom to every body," Bowe explained.

She added, "For us today, this is more than a fashion statement, it's a nod to what I think will be the future of space where you have flexible, responsive fabrics and you have designers putting their take on what they think the future of space travel looks like."

AI:

"Launch: The New Shepard rocket accelerates to space, and during this acceleration, the crew experiences 3Gs. This means they feel three times heavier than they do on Earth.
  • Flight: Once the rocket reaches apogee (the highest point of its trajectory), the crew experiences weightlessness. However, it's important to note that Earth's gravitational pull is still present, it's just that the capsule is falling at the same rate as the crew, creating the sensation of weightlessness.
  • Descent: As the capsule descends, it experiences forces greater than 5Gs, which is more than five times the force of gravity. This is because the capsule is decelerating quickly to prepare for landing.
Blue Origin uses safety measures like redundant systems and crushable rings to help absorb these forces.

"I wish those who were criticizing the mission could read the messages in my inbox," Bowe said, adding, "I am seeing boys and girls around the world say, ‘I’m inspired, and I see myself in this crew.'"

"King noted in the press conference that the flight has had its "haters."
