I feel like I made some comments on this thread as I too enjoy south park but they seem to be gone. I didn't say anything controversial or off topic either the first comment was how I used to enjoy the devil and Saddam dynamic and that was before I was able to see this season and was surprised to see a similar situation. I know I was here as just above this post I hit the like button back when this thread was active. Anyone know why my posts were removed?

if posts are removed there is a gap in the sequence number at the top-right of the posts and i checked and there isn't, that i could notice, in this thread. there was discussion of this first in the trump neurosis thread i think before this thread was started; maybe you are thinking of there?

Unfortunately, the UK has turned speech into an action that can literally be policed by law enforcement instead of leaving it to the civil courts.
Which begs the question, doesn’t South Park violate many of the new standards on speech the UK is policing and enforcing. Also with the BBC select editing of a Trump speech, that seems like a violation of what the UK is now currently enforcing. If the UK was equally enforcing their speech standards, there should already be BBC fines.

The BBC doesn't show South Park.
I seem to recall Channel 4(nothing to do with BBC) used to air the show back in the late 90s or early 2000s.
That's Paramount+ or Comedy Central in this day of age.
South Park has definitely clashed with some of our broadcasting rules in the past.
The Muhammad episodes spring to mind and were never broadcast uncensored.
But the show hasn't been shut down wholesale simply for being offensive.
So "no" South Park does not automatically violate UK speech laws.
Who is it you imagine would be fined?

I think the claim/inquiry was that it violates "standards", not "laws".

So which "standards" in particular are being policed and enforced?
Because "Police" enforce "laws" not "standards."
The laws of the land being the only ones.

Here is the Ofcom standards section on hatred and abuse:
https://www.ofcom.org.uk/tv-radio-and-on...tred-abuse
More generally:
Quote:The legislative background to the Code
Ofcom is required under the Communications Act 2003 (as amended) ("the Act") and the Broadcasting Act 1996 (as amended) ("the 1996 Act") to draw up a code for television and radio, covering standards in programmes, sponsorship, product placement in television programmes, fairness and privacy. This Code is to be known as the Ofcom Broadcasting Code ("the Code"). https://www.ofcom.org.uk/tv-radio-and-on...dcast-code
*shrug*
I think the point was that they couldn't broadcast South Park if they wanted to, without severe editing, or they'd be in violation of the law which requires them to enforce standards. That seems accurate.

In the UK South Park airs after the watershed Ultra, or comes with a content warning attached.
So those "Ofcom standards section on hatred and abuse" are not quite as relevant as imagined.
My point is Police enforce laws, not standards.
And it's perfectly legal to watch the show here in the UK.
Via a variety of different means.
Nobody is being fined for watching South Park.
They are however, being extorted monies, if they choose to be hoodwinked into purchasing a TV licence.

I do wonder if they censored this bit though:
