I think it may be a wise move to have removed the 'like' button as it may prod people to actually start replying instead of doing the lazy 'like' and nobody really knowing which part of others' posts they really did like, as some posts are quite lengthy and include a lot of information.
So you prefer lots of short posts?
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

You want it harder to read.

*ETA* But with all fairness some of the most liked comments were one-liners of the same recycled vitriol... Especially when they oppose the few (usually) liberal poster's comments.
And with that, the like button also served to establish who was to be named "Piggy"...
It is also trying to give each post "more equality." So no unfair representation for any one post is skewed by any one dominant demographic group supporting it in excess.
Everyone can still freely comment though.

If the like buttons are intentionally turned off then why are they still on the ops in each thread?

It's there, I think you can click it, but it wont show likes anymore. I'd imagine it's a software thing.
During beta testing and the first year of the site it was like that.

I'm not sure where exactly you want to go with that comment. All I was trying to say was that it may prod some to continue the conversation or add more comment to someone else's comment for more exploration, perhaps, into that specific train of thought, or a divergent train of thought that perhaps the original poster never considered - instead of pushing a 'like' button.

You can say whatever you like about the "Like", but at least it worked.
I give up trying to reply to others on a daily basis.

I am sorry it has been a negative for you replying to others but maybe choosing the topic and the member is the key to a more positive reply and/or lead in to discussion.

" Yes, receiving likes or thumbs-up online triggers a dopamine rush by activating the brain’s reward system, specifically regions like the ventral striatum and nucleus accumbens. This release of dopamine is the same chemical response associated with pleasurable activities such as eating delicious food, winning money, or even consuming addictive substances.
The psychological impact is driven by several key factors: - Anticipation and Uncertainty: The brain is often more excited by the anticipation of likes than the likes themselves. The unpredictable nature of social feedback creates a variable reward schedule similar to gambling or slot machines, compelling users to check notifications repeatedly.
- Social Validation: Because humans are wired to seek acceptance, a "like" is interpreted as social approval, activating the medial prefrontal cortex. Conversely, receiving fewer likes than expected can trigger the anterior cingulate cortex, causing social pain that mirrors physical pain.
- Dopamine Deficit: Heavy reliance on these digital hits can raise the brain's reward threshold, leading to a dopamine deficit when not using social media. This state can result in anxiety, depression, and compulsive scrolling as the brain seeks to restore homeostasis." (LLM)

But, how are they worth a trillion dollars?” Harris continued. “They don’t sell your data, they sell the capacity to influence and manipulate your thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors through advertising. So long as we’re the product and not the customer, their business model is making sure that we use it as frequently and for as long and as often as possible.”"
