Was told yrs ago you grab a snapper by the tail, but I'm sure there's a "more correct" way since they ARE like tanks & pretty hefty. The funny thing about turtles is, bending is a "issue". Heheheheheh!!!

The Painted Turtle I had was quite the pistol. 
Per normal, as critters are wont to do, if they disagree with you your gonna get peed on.

I can't help it. Adore all critters however their behaviors just crack me up. Appreciate your concern for the Frog Road Block. I'd of been the moron who got run over as I was trying to "sweep" them off the road. Vehicle with Flashers on, mangled human with squished frogs & broom as First Responder's puzzle just exactly wtf? 
(yes my road-kit is weird. broom, scraper, windex,paper towels, disposable gloves, box cutter, electrical tape, zippered cooler. Some Cop is gonna have a field day on a traffic stop!)

Maybe, depending on the surface(like grass or dirt), you might be able to drag it a bit by the tail if it's only a few feet, but I don't think I would actually try to completely lift one of the larger ones by the tail alone. Dragging it by the tail a short ways though (if possible) does seem like it would create a safer distance. My idea was to just get my hands around the shell near the rear and just pick it up and move it, but after the first attempt, I knew it wasn't going to be easy – it was apparently more agile in coming around at me than I had anticipated.

The "pee" thing is funny though. I can recall picking up toads as a kid and they would do that, or a certain cat that got upset with me once and peed on my computer chair. I guess they only have limited ways of expressing their emotions.

I feel like I'm seeing far too many dead animals on the roads these days. Maybe it's because I drive a lot more; people aren't paying attention (or both). Sometimes it's unavoidable, but most times it isn't. I recall driving 25 MPH through a nature reserve last year and out of nowhere this deer just throws itself up onto my hood. The deer was fine, and it just ran off without skipping a beat. I remember thinking: "Wow, that was just like the insurance scam I've been seeing in videos lately.".

Those are pretty frogs, and good on you for saving her and planning a return to the wilds!!!

I get a (private) chuckle about how many people freak out over things like frogs, spiders, crickets (here in Texas yet!  Good grief!), grasshoppers, and dragonflies.  And bees.  You'd think that bees were eighteen feet tall and carried flamethrowers!

I love me some insect critters. I have had dragonflies come around when I water my hostas....looking for a drink I guess. 
 
Now, flies you can keep...and yellowjackets....and MOSQUITOES

I feel like I'm seeing far too many dead animals on the roads these days. Maybe it's because I drive a lot more; people aren't paying attention (or both). Sometimes it's unavoidable, but most times it isn't. I recall driving 25 MPH through a nature reserve last year and out of nowhere this deer just throws itself up onto my hood. The deer was fine, and it just ran off without skipping a beat. I remember thinking: "Wow, that was just like the insurance scam I've been seeing in videos lately.".

I thought it was just me.  And I don't drive much.  5 miles to work, then back most days, but there is always a racoon or deer or something dead in the road or on the side.  I feel bad for them, since they are just trying to get wherever they are going.

The racoons that are trying to get my chickens and ducks?  Well, They don't get any sympathy.

I've seen dozens of critters scurrying/navigating the roads over the past year, and maybe into the hundreds since I've been engaging these scenic drives of mine. I'll be honest though, I've hit a couple myself. I hit a duck once back around 2018, and I wasn't even sure I hit anything because it happened so fast. I thought I saw something in the rearview but not sure about that either. I ended up going back to the place where there was a farmers' stand and enquired as I was making a couple purchases, and the farmer did in fact verify what I had thought. He pointed to a heavily grown thicket on the other side of the road, and I actually even went over to see for myself, but I didn't see anything.

I did feel some remorse for killing one of the farmers' birds and dropped a twenty in his money jar, and even went back there several times to buy more stuff, look at the livestock, or have a seat on the ground and hang out with the peacocks and maybe see them spread their feathers.

I was getting gas one day in a town over and this guy waved and said hello, and I was like: "I'm sorry, do I know you?" and he said who he was – he was that farmer. I only saw him briefly a couple times. Haven't been back there for a few years, and I guess mostly did what I did out of guilt, but maybe I should stop by again sometime and have another visit with the peacocks or something.
