Major Tsunami on the 5th
#21
I like normalcy bias as much as the next guy. I think it makes a lot of sense when something is going to happen or has already happened which you have no control over.

6th biggest Earthquake ever recorded, 8.8, and Volcano eruption almost immediately after, same time and place Kamchatka Russia.

Crazy 8s…

What are the odds?

Looking at the data, it looks like the eight point eight was wrong, that came from the USGS all the other labs were saying it was a seven plus...If that's the case looking at the type of event which is unfolding the big one has not occurred yet. We are not looking at aftershocks we are looking at pre event shocks migrating south. My prediction is a nine or ten going off this month. Based on  Looking at what reputable psychics are saying and what's happening on the ground if the eight point eight was the real number it probably could be put to rest but it was obviously much of a nothing burger as far as a tsunami went, and an eight point eight should have made a bigger wave.,

Please... No!!! Lol, okay... maybe?

A 10.0 is Hollywood impossible though. Like that movie San Andreas, where the job of  "technical advisor" came with a muzzle or money to shut up.

Well, actually....

Magnitude is based off the fault rupture, which includes things like FAULT LENGTH.  And a 10.0 would need an estimated fault rupture over 14,000 km and NO FAULT on earth is that long.  Largest possible megaquake is about 9.5 or *maybe* a 9.6.  Like The Valdivia Earthquake of 1960.

But those do occur.

And the one last week was absolutely an 8.8.

I get the logic though. Tohoku was a 9.1

That's only 2.8 times larger than an 8.8, so you'd think you're going to see a huge wave almost as big, but two 9.0s can produce completely different Tsunamis based on HOW the fault ruptures. Like with depth and how much displacement transfers to the seafloor rupture, rather than maximum slip at depth.

The 2010 7.2 in Baja, Mexico had 2.5 to 3 meters of maximum rupture (slip) but the maximum surface rupture was 120 centimeters occurring in only one location. This happens with every earthquake that has a surface rupture, no matter the type of fault.

They're still studying this one. So there is still stuff to be learned.

Also worth pointing out is only one population center was hit. It didn't hit multiple populated prefectures along the coast point blank so your exposure to images of the tsunami is limited to that one area, which has different coastal topography than the many videos from Japan.

But you're right about earthquakes triggering things, like Volcanos, which has happened now.  But that means the "Krashnenninkov" volcano was already nearing it's eruption and seismic waves unclogged it. (Literally)

Quake storms happen too.  And if it "ruptures southwest along the fault" stress is sent in that direction. Like how in 2010 the Baja quake sent its energy north and triggered the San Jacinto with a bunch of 5s.

So to you're prediction, its ability to trigger a subsequent subduction quake relies on how locked up that area already is. And it so happens this 8.8 quake occurred in a seismicity gap between two more recent megathrust quakes, in 1923 to the North, and to the South in 1952, which makes it less likely enough stress has built up for the proverbial straw in either direction.

Not impossible, but very unlikely.

The data and the lineups are showing something pretty astounding as far as geological event go and is unfolding. The wave is following the fault lines and seems to be triggering mild quakes as far away as NY city. Dutchsinse and Stefan are starting to get concerned if it goes off in the China area we might be wise to get prepared for supply line disruptions.  "Great events cast their shadows long before them"  The Risk of a Major Geologic Disaster just went WAY UP ?
