 ERC-20 is the Ethereum standard. I have missed a lot of this development. They where first out the gate with a trusted smart contract.

The core system is too slow for global adaption. Solana is picking up this slack. There are upgrades and add ons going on to fill the gap. I have not gone deep into their code.It does handle billions of dollars so sure there is strength there. As for how things played out in the early days and looking for a level of trust that is 'as safe as houses'? Ethereum was first out the gate after Bitcoin, Blackrock is onboard. 

Ethereum is an important platform to explore the crypto space. A lot of it works with its current market cap. Serious. As for its core infrastructure, not as battle hardened and real world transparency as XRP from this perspective.

Finance is a complicated world, cooked a lot of brain cells along the way. While Ethereum deals with a lot of the day traders, the culture of XRP is looking to maintain a couple thousand years of banking regulations in this digital age.
