SUCH A LITTLE THING

It is very mentally healthy to never feel so big that you can't feel small. Look at the stars!
What a wonderful sentiment.

Years ago I wanted to write a children's science book from the perspective of bugs.

Many life reasons why that never happened.

Bugs are extremely important to our ecosystems. I just read that those nasty flies are also pollinators so now I try to steer them outside instead of using the fly swatter.

You should write that book and teach children that killing bugs may not be the right thing to do.

I went to a writer's workshop once.  It wasn't any fun.

They were all so serious about little minute details -- because they were all trying to get published and had to appease the publishers and critics.

I feel if I watch my grammar (loosely) and spell everything correctly -- I'm good to go  Lol

I too went to a writer's workshop in a library but not for publishing/making money on the side reasons.

I came away with what I needed, how to make the first paragraph grab your audience or to grab my inspiration and keep me going. Keeping them engaged thereafter is the more difficult part. Writing for myself is so much more enjoyable.

When writing for children you would definitely need to spell everything correctly and use grade-level appropriate words, I would think. Or introduce new words but explain the meaning right after (?) I suppose a science book on bugs would introduce children to some words they never saw or heard before - tricky endeavour.

I love the Captain Underpants books because they include "big words".  Seriously, they are great for expanding a young persons vocabulary in a fun way.

I've actually never written before or had any real aspirations to do so.  About 5 years ago a friend asked me to join her writers group.  It actually turned out to be a fun group -- and I could just "let it fly".

Today I write one page stories usually with a twist at the end.  I have no desire to go beyond that.  To flesh out characters, backstories, etc.

What do you write?

What do you write?

While I was searching DI for the last story I wrote here, I found your one story thread. Actually I see you have two threads, and two one-page stories here; maybe more?

Annee's one page love story

Sci-fi, The Collective by Annee

Right now I am playing around with mashing different tunes together in my head and trying to make songs out of it and gardening. Tis the season for chillin'.

Here is the last story I wrote on this wonderful writing thread that has been buried but not forgotten:

#59: Four foot phallic drawing at elementary school

Hey, Annee this thread is right up your writing alley and most of the rest of us, it appears.

Once I was a bug
The whole world passed me by or
If they saw me they tried to kill me
I pollinised their flowers
I collected their waste
I ate their pests
But one day a little boy squashed me for fun

Yes, the story photo challenge thread seems interesting.

I'm still raising the Autistic (high functioning grandson - now 17).  I really feel for any new moms raising kids in this generation.  It is bizarre.

I'll check out the "back" stories when I have time.  Never know when I might pop in  Biggrin

Well the Millennials I know don't want to have children in this day and age for reasons we all know...period. I sympathize with you, but there is also joy there, so hopefully it all balances out for you both.

Yeah, I was trying to prod you to tackle that last photo on the story challenge thread as nobody else seems to want to tackle it. LOL
