I expect more from our tax dollars.
Yes sir so do I...
watch this 5-minute video of a couple that was on FOX yesterday and as the woman in the video says we were being polite and they did get $750 but have a couple thousand in receipts they had to pay just to keep a generator running for food. Afterward, she started getting calls from lots of friends and family who hadn't received anything and just were embarrassed to come forward. One businessman ready to clean up his business is getting the run around between the Small Business Association and FEMA
That's a characteristic of many Western Carolinians, it is hard to get them to ask for help, if it weren't for locals and many other private citizens from far and wide helping it would be worse than it is on the ground.

Very heartening to hear the stories of neighbours helping neighbours, and local and regional charity organizations at work. Somewhat wistful hearing their expectations that the government is there to help them, as individuals. Perhaps in a better world it should be, but it saddens me thinking of all the people learning that world is not this one.
By saying "I expect more from our tax dollars", I simply meant slicker propaganda. Really. That's all I expect from them. Now as far as what I would like, that's a different story -- one that seems irrelevant to the system we are given.
If there is an air of community caring on the ground, it seems that air thins, the further up the pyramid one looks. At the highest levels of the power structure, we are well past the days of Imperial Rome, where they at least had the courtesy to occasionally rain down bread along with the circuses. Now it seems that all that rains down is indifference, manipulation, and, if you're unlucky enough to live outside the empire's benevolence, destruction.
Edit to add: Was anyone else fascinated, watching that video, to see if the tree branch poking that guy's head was going to muss his hair? Fortunately, it did not.

Oh, you believe the country is already past the point of no return, Im only 60 I haven't become that cynical and sarcastic yet, but it's bubbling inside me sometimes like a good case of heartburn or indigestion.
NGL lie I wondered where he got his perfect hair... but does that mean you think they are less credible? Otherwise how is it germane to thread? Inquiring minds want to know

Oh no not less credible although now that you mention it it did seem like his wife or sister was had definite ideas about what he should say, lol. It was germane only in a budgie sort of way, which is to say, it was a shiny object that distracted.
I wouldn't say past the point of no return, although perhaps humanity as a whole has been such since time immemorial. Just a product of trying to see what the system actually is and does, rather than what it says it is or people want to believe it is. I try not to be cynical. Sorry about any sarcasm; it's a coping mechanism sometimes.

No need for an apology, Ive been told I can be maddeningly sarcastic by my ex-wife and most girlfriends. Im just trying to see where you are coming from and I'm just passing the time.
As for humanity who knows this may be all we can accomplish and we're limited by our DNA and we are products of our society and environment.
