I've seen this already and was in the Marines back when testing was being explored on this weapon system. We looked at is being too big as a backup weapon, but as an urban environment weapon it was great. One thing that isn't mentioned in the video was the set that was made with a shoulder stock attached to the grip.
We tested it with a gemtech silencer, but a few units had an AWC made silencer. The gemtech tested better, but maybe I have a bias on that. As a CQB weapon it was a pretty good system when used with the stock and gemtech attached. In the end we stayed with the MP-5SD since it provided more rounds, but being a 45cal vs the 9mm of the MP-5SD I liked the 45cal better. I always thought we could just use a longer mag but with the 45 you wouldn't want something bigger than a 25 rd due to weight. In the end the SOCOM was a good large frame main weapon system pistol, but the draw backs if used as a backup pistol didn't make much sense. |
