Gerrymandering | Definition, Litigation, & Facts | Britannica
Quote:gerrymandering, in U.S. politics, the practice of drawing the boundaries of electoral districts in a way that gives one political party an advantage over its rivals (political or partisan gerrymandering) or that dilutes the voting power of members of racial or ethnic minority groups (racial gerrymandering). The term is derived from the name of Gov. Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts, whose administration enacted a law in 1812 defining new state senatorial districts. The law consolidated the Federalist Party vote in a few districts and thus gave disproportionate representation to Democratic-Republicans. The outline of one of these districts was thought to resemble a salamander. A satirical cartoon by Elkanah Tisdale that appeared in the Boston Gazette graphically transformed the districts into a fabulous animal, “The Gerry-mander,” fixing the term in the popular imagination.
The Supreme Court FINALLY, did another thing right, they stated that gerrymandering based on skin color is, well, racist. And just to note, not everyone of any skin color believes the same way.
We look at states like Illinois where just 2 counties that are one ideology, can control and dictate to the rest of the state that is of a different ideology. Maybe we can have honest representation based on ideology. Like, what's the word. . . . . . a democracy.

Virginia violated the procedure of THE VIRGINIA CONSTITUTION, and illegally fast tracked this through. THE VIRGINIA SUPREME COURT tossed it out 4 to 3.
State's rights and all.
Please clarify WHICH supreme court, because you didn't.
Elsewhere...
California, Florida, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah are redistricting... And throw on Virginia and Indiana with asterisks.
It is the pot cheering the kettle's attempt getting tossed out..
So Those other nine red states, comprising 3 of the biggest electoral counts, drawing favorable GOP maps, isn't a sign of desparation how?
Come on. The GOP is desparate to maintain a midterm trifecta, and Texas started this last year.... Then California responded to Texas, then Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee, Indiana, Utah, joined with Virginia, the one other democrat state to try to redraw districts.
But An 9-2 count says the democrats arent the ones that need to desparately gerrymander to win...
it could be like Viktor Orban, who used it in Hungary to give himself a supermajority for 13 of 16 years.... We can enjoy doing legal and constitutional Viktor Orban shit!
But I'm wondering, if even being +20 on the NET electoral advantage for The GOP (after California subtracts 5) will be enough.... This is a really unpopular war, and midterms are inverse waves in the house a lot of times....
It naturally shifts 20 to 30 without Gerrymamdering...
Will be interesting.
Just waiting for the democrats to flip the house anyway and for the instant response to be "they cheated again!"

8-2 says THE DEMOCRATS arent thE ones that need to gerrymander.... which is technically not cheating.... it even found extensive use in Hungary to give Viktor Orban a supermajority for 13 of 16 years.... So enjoy doing constitutional Viktor Orban shit...

And will the GOP say "the democrats stole it" if it still isnt enough, and the Democrats still flip the few seats necesassy for one half of the legislature?
The votes will be equal.
Democracy.
Isn't that what everyone wants?

Well, I'm glad you support our temporary solution that forced the MAGA alsoran, Darrell Issa into eventual retirement.
Santee (Klantee), Lakeside, and Vista really dont need their fancy red congressional district anymore anyway. They get to be blue now whether they want to or not. Just like the evil urban areas their wholesome North and East County values are better than.... as they drive their family trucks with some trepidation to the game or monster truck rally at the stadium downtown...

Monster trucks are awesome. I took my son to one in San antonio for his birthday one year *I always wanted to go to one as a kid* and we had a blast these trucks are like as big as your living room doing flips in the air it was epic and they spin on their sides too

Its democracy in action!
And also an excuse to mock the conservative periphery of my county for losing Darrell Issa, The Parrot, as their representative. What can I say, they drive big trucks? Fuck their rural and suburban vote concentrations. They can be diluted through the urban areas to make their choice of representative worthless and NOT representative anymore.
Democracy!

So you are for a concentration of one ideology enforcing policy over another?

Sure, why not?
As long as everyone can do it. We can all be assholes and isolate whats different from the greater state majority as one.
I hate gerrymandering, and wish my state listened to Arnie and took the fucking high road.. Because we open the floodgates, and 9 more conservative states followed us trying to counter Texas.
And its getting far from representative. Like you should see what Louianna is doing to their two democrat districts, which are also their two black districts. Of course, its not because they are black, its because they are democrat! They can and will eliminate one.
You can think this thread is about VIRGINIA, or cheating democrats, but Republican states are in on this in 5 to 1 rate over democrat states.
And it has that unspoken race thing going everywhere. Because It's by default.
Because (California) cut up conservative white places, like Virginia sliced up 700 Club land, and red states cut up largely ethnic and democrat leaning districts.
Its all ANTI REPRESENTATIVE, NO MATTER WHO DOES IT..
