Treatment for Seborrheic dermatitis or Eczema
#1
I have Seborrheic dermatitis (Seborrhea).   It manifests as overproduction of the Seborrheic ducts, mostly on my head.  What that means is that if I don't shave often, I will develop a rash, because apparently I'm toxic to myself.  Yeah, who saw that coming?   Eczema is similar, and can cause a rash from flaking skin.

I have been dealing with this for more than 20 years;  I am in my late 60's.   If I don't shave often enough, it's almost like I get facial dandruff, and once shaved, I get strange rune-like markings in my skin from the rash.   I have shaved my face and my head for decades because of this.  I also build up flakey skin in my eyebrows and the top of my nose.  The interior of my ears get crusty flakes.   EW!   I know, I know.   This is not language that anybody wants to read.   If you've come this far, you  probably want answers also.  If this is you, I have a cure.   A real cure.

Coconut oil.   I make homemade cold-pressed virgin coconut oil, but there are many levels of coconut oil available.   Try to get VCO.    My ears used to hurt from the rash and the flaking.   Not any more.   Every morning, I rub coconut oil into my eyebrows, the bridge of my nose, around my mouth, and in my ears.    I then take a tablespoon and rub it all over my head and neck.   Yeah.  Shiny!!   It sinks in and now, I have no more flakes.   Ever.  No more rash.

I realize this is awkward discourse for you youngsters.   I have almost no natural modesty left.   I have struggled with this for so long, that I thought that even if I helped out just a few people, why that would be good enough.

So this is my last blast.   I don't really care if nobody cares about this thread, but I would hope that those few who might benefit from it might see it.

This is useful I'm getting ready to move and I have a half a jar of coconut oil in the pantry I don't know what to do with other than throw out so I might try and use it even though I don't have that skin condition but perhaps it will be good thank you!

And no worries talking about ailments haha I notice this forum skew a bit older in that demographic so it is quite all right oooh my back aches a little from moving boxes!

Oh and it is curious because I imagine more people read thread than reply and file away your little tidbit of advice even if not applicable and who knows I bet it will be passed along to those who need even years from now. Lotta encyclopedia brains here.

Thanks for the tip, argentus!

I suffer from exactly the same thing, but I’ve never seen a dermatologist and I didn’t know it had a specific name. I haven’t shaved for over twenty years, just keep a trimmed beard. However, the flaking skin around my forehead, bridge of nose and temples is ‘irritating’.

My solution, thus far, has been to use 99% pure aloe vera gel. I have oily skin, so the gel dries quickly, whereas I can imagine coconut oil might remain too greasy, but I’ll give it a try. I can easily find coconut oil, but it’s pretty expensive, so I’ll try when I find some discounted.

The battle rages on!

I have dry skin and dandruff, also flaky ears now and then and it can be around my eyebrows and nose too. Not as bad as you by the sound of it as I don't get a rash or anything.

I just use head and shoulders and now and then a little insect bite cream which contains hydrocortisone around my ears etc when it appears. I rarely sweat and put it down to that. My hair never gets greasy, just dryer!

The coconut oil is a good tip that I might try.

Man, I really need to get that thread we discussed up and running.  Maybe this week?

My hubby has the same thing, flaky skin on his face.  We use a homemade lotion on it that works pretty well, made with virgin olive oil infused with calendula flowers and beeswax to thicken a bit.

I have some VCO I use for other stuff, so I will have him try that as well.

So, thank you for the thread!

Rub it in, as though you're giving the area a massage.   Coconut oil tends to sit on the skin unless massaged in.  Get Virgin Coconut Oil.   It makes a difference.   I also have oily skin, which is in juxtaposition with my Seborrheic Dermatitis.  I mean, it's like my face can't balance itself.   I STILL GET PIMPLES and I just turned 67!!!!!  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHGgggg!    Okay, I'm better. now.   In. Out.

Try it.  It is excellent for your skin.   I know this is going to be TMI, but since I make coconut oil, my Bride and me pretty much slather it EVERYwhere.   Yes, there also.  Deal with it.

You betcha.   Both coconut oil and olive oil are medium-length-trigliceride oils, but coconut oil has lauric acid, which is very antimicrobial and antifungal.   Plus, it smells and tastes good, especially for couple therapy.
