Do you remember when the internet was real?

I want to share this video because she is expressing thoughts similar to mine, and now I would love to hear your thoughts about this topic?

I think all AI and bots should be labeled, so we all know that is isn't a real person we are talking to.  [Image: think.gif]

I often know, but it's becoming harder and harder, so we need to label all AI and bots, etc.

The internet was once a vast digital frontier of endless human created content. The World Wide Web connected us, until corporations decided their profit margins mattered more than Tim Berners-Lee's vision of an open web. Now we're trapped on the same few websites, force fed algorithmic content and AI generated slop. Anonymous users predicted this years ago with what they called Dead Internet Theory. From bot armies manipulating conversations to AI generated content flooding every platform, the internet we once knew is disappearing.

Oh she looks so sad in that thumbnail, she should use a filter, it would get more views.

...sorry that was off-the-cuff irony...

I do think there is something to DIT. Even if not everyone is a bot, the way the algos promote and assemble makes it seem like it. It is sort of like those ransom notes that are made from letters cut out of a magazine, you know? Like each of the letters is a twitterized snippet of someone's genuine opinion, and the algo feeds them in a pattern that creates the desired narrative. So even if it's real, it's fake.

There is also the displacement effect that Internet-ized communication has had. Other, in-real-life, less controllable venues have been squeezed out to a large extent. Where does community happen? Bars, churches, the workplace? Each of these has been greatly affected. And people take their phones everywhere now...

This does bring up the problem faced by AI developers that AI is getting worse simply because it is learning more from AI then from people. How can AI be more human like unless it interacts with humans? It is self defeating.

The AI garbage machines are feeding from other AI garbage machines.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

And unrestricted?
Funny you bring this up now.
I was just going through some old papers that I had printed from various sites.  A lot of them were from 2004.  I actually went back to try to find some of the sites.   No luck there.
Then I just tried "googling" some of the titles from the info.  No luck there either.

The info varied greatly, from alien info, to home remedy sites.

I'm sure it is still there somewhere, just buried so far, most will never find it.

It was so much freer then.

People should just leave their phone at home or simply don't check it constantly.

Here in Denmark phones are now banned in classrooms and also other places - It will help the children to concentrate better that's for sure.

I don't have a mobile. My daughter bought me one a while back but my grandson borrowed it and promply lost it lol. When I asked him about it he said 'grandad youv'e never switched it on'. Which made me laugh!

I have a landline and a laptop.
