It was sometime after the fateful Battle of the Basque Roads, April 1809,
blockaded in Brest on the Breton coast by the British Channel Fleet. Lord Cochrane attacked with a squadron of fireships, with devastating effect. She had seen enough of the sea, and of battle. Once the ship docked Galatea got down off the post under the bowsprit and headed inland. When the shipwrights for la Marine Impériale Française noticed the figurehead missing, they cancelled all future contracts with the sculptor Pygmalion.

"Noses of the devil, lights fires below…." must be the flaming ships ramming the French ships. "Separation from innocence, shows your peaceful ways…" I didn't work it in, but it was the ship's maiden voyage. And separation is un-attaching from that ship which survived the battle. Does it ruin a story to dissect it?
