All foreign nationals present in the United States longer than 30 days

All foreign nationals present in the United States longer than 30 days

I'm thinking they have stumbled upon some bad actors or they want to see how many self-deport.

They are acting with such surety on such a hot-button topic, they might have some dirt and some intel

@PressSec: "All foreign nationals present in the United States longer than 30 days must register with the federal government. Failure to comply with this is a crime punishable by fines, imprisonment, or both... If not, you will be arrested, fined, deported, never to return to our country again."

I thought by law everyone immigrating had to be registered no matter what. Otherwise illegal. Duh, right?
My friend was worried they would target green card holders.
I think it's unfounded nonsense but it's funny they have to announce essentially 'we are enforcing the law now'

Jesus freaking hell. He's hard to watch.

Goodbye B1(business) and B2 (tourism) visas?

Goodbye being part of the greater world?

At one point they were good for 10 years and 180 days per stay. Aren't those defacto acknowledgements of government?

What's the deal with this decree? So even if it's a B2 visa, that allows up to 180 days, they have to jump through an extra hoop?

I don't get this. Are we making foreign visitors on travel Visas put themselves on a list beyond the travel visa itself, just so there's something to harass them for if they don't?

Aren't you known to the government as soon as you enter on a travel visa by customs? What other foreign nationals are there? The illegals also made themselves known to the Federal government right away, or did for 4 years anyway.

Who does this freaking apply to?

I thought he got rid of the Visa Waiver Program.

Nahh, it is less intrusive than I thought if you have a States Drivers license it's REAL ID compliant and has been for a couple of years.

One would assume most long-term Visa holders already have licenses

Not going to mention I had to stand in line to get mine and I didn't want too

Quote:Yes, many visa holders can get a U.S. driver's license, but it depends on the visa type, state, and status. Nonimmigrant visa holders (e.g., F-1 students, H-1B workers, B-2 tourists) can often apply for a license if their visa allows them to stay long enough—states typically require proof of legal presence (like a passport with visa) and residency (e.g., utility bill). Licenses for nonimmigrants usually expire when the visa does, though some states issue temporary licenses tied to I-94 duration. For example, F-1 students might get a license valid for their study period, while B-2 tourists might face restrictions or shorter validity since their stay is brief (usually 6 months max).
Immigrant visa holders (green card holders) have an easier path, treated similarly to citizens for licensing purposes, with standard licenses valid for years, depending on the state.
Each state’s DMV sets its own rules. California, for instance, allows licenses for many visa types with proper docs, while others might be stricter. Some states issue “limited purpose” licenses for certain nonimmigrants, marked to show they’re not for federal ID purposes.
Issues crop up with visa expirations or pending extensions—DMVs can deny or delay licenses if your status isn’t clear. You’d need to check your state’s DMV website for specifics. Want me to look up a particular state or visa type for you?
