DEW attack in Canneto di Caronia?

Given all the recent hullabaloo about claims of 'directed energy weapon' was put in mind of this series of anomalies a few years ago in the Sicilian seaside village of Canneto di Caronia.

After a spate of over 300 unexplained fires at the end of 2003 (spontaneous combustion of electrical goods, beds, sofas etc.) the National Government deployed an investigative task force who evacuated the residents and then began constant 24 hour monitoring with specialist equipment.

In the vid below the head of the team Francesco Venerando explains how they discovered that USB drives and computers were malfunctioning; cars were locking and unlocking on their own and that compasses didn't work (wherever you put them).

The team also discovered massive, repeated pulses of electromagnetic energy (which they concluded they were not caused by natural events) and speculated that the intense EM bursts were responsible for generating the fires and perhaps part of some kind of secret military experiment.

Just as the team's data was suggesting the origin of these bursts were coming from off the coast 'in the ocean' their investigation was abruptly shut down by the Italian Government.

Locals blamed supernatural causes for the many unexplained fires in their small village, however after further investigation secret military experiments could be the cause of all the strange occurrences.

Mysterious Spontaneous Combustions Return to Sicilian City

In 2007, an Italian newspaper published a leaked government report which blamed the fires on “aliens” because they were “caused by high power electromagnetic emissions which were not man-made and reached a power of between 12 and 15 gigawatts.”

And now the spontaneous combustions are back again and increasing in frequency. Starting in late summer 2014, residents reported unexplained fires in furniture, stacks of folded clothes and a car. As a result, the poor citizens of Canneto di Caronia have been evacuated again while firefighters put out blazes and look again for causes.

This time, suggestions include UFOs, a Tesla-type Magnifying Transmitter, ghosts or evil spirits or even a troubled young person who is pyrokinetic. Sicily’s council member for health and safety Vittorio Alfieri thinks the cause is “an entity” that transfers “from one house to another.”

Apparently hundreds of explosive bursts of E.M. energy were discovered each lasting only a fraction of a second.

Any thoughts on this one as it does sound rather unusual to say the least.

In the first posted video of the thread it also mentions that the U.S. 6th fleet were based in Naples which looks almost directly north of Canneto di Caronia and there's another interesting comment from journalist Antonio Mazzeo about 'the installation of weapons structures'.

Apparently 'continuous investigations were also made with boats, helicopters and vehicles equipped with special instruments in order to detect electric, magnetic, geo-magnetic anomalies'.

In part eight of the news investigation the CUN Secretary does suggest that 'we may be in presence of some form of extremely advanced technology' but that 'he doesn’t believe in the existence of some kind of Spectre like organization'.

There's also this snippet involving the leaking of the official interim report in 2007.

In 2007, the task force, after closing the investigations and monitoring, leaked an interim report which raised more questions instead of providing some answers: and the conclusion was that the “bizarre” events were "caused by hundreds of high-power electromagnetic emissions which were not man-made and reached a power between 12 and 15 gigawatts."

Francesco Mantegna Venerando, Sicily's Civil Protection chief who co-ordinated the report, also said "This is just one possibility. We are also looking at another one which involves the testing of top-secret weapons by an unknown power which are also capable of producing an enormous amount of energy." And "This is not the final report. We are still working on our conclusions and this has been leaked," he concluded.

This high power technology in Italy , could it be some sort of "alternative EMP weapon" but without nuclear detonation ....by using microwaves in really high power . Cant rule out coming from orbit/space either, if the Italy site is the testing range ?

I'm not really trying to 'debunk' this idea, but I can't shake a question.

I can't imagine why on Earth would you test a weapon in this way.  Weapons testing has many potential purpose, measuring energy outputs, judging efficacy, determining ranging and accuracy parameters, targeting drift, efficiency... etc. etc.  They all require specific follow-up measurements and testing.

What the hell purpose does "repeatedly terrorizing a fishing village" at the risk of "revealing an operational DE weapon" serve?

There are plenty of available ranges and open fields, old abandoned towns, fully-equipped and secured sensing facilities... why "apply" it specifically here?

It seems to me that if I associate this phenomenon with DEW testing, I would explore the possibility that these effects were incidental, or at least unintended.

Also, weapons scale comes into question.  Is this actually an independently platformed weapon?

I might entertain that this potential weapon is actually NOT from a major power, but from one of the many "private" military operations that have propagated since the 50's... you know those that a couple of Presidents openly 'warned us' about back then...

Wow, this is excellent Karl and there is more to this than some crazy civilians running around. Living where I live today there is something ongoing also. I live on Lake Murray in South Carolina. 20 miles from Columbia. We have 175' of waterfront. In 2020 we had two new circuit panel boxes installed with new breakers and EATON whole home surge protection.  Home was built in 1994. Since our arrival here the following has happened:

• WIFI continually gets "zapped" such that we have to reset passwords. This also happens with battery backup and another backup to the back to the Router. ROKU gets zapped also. ATT is the provider. 
  
• Security Cameras [RING] also get zapped and have to be reset manually. 
  
• Three [3] $1000 stereo receivers have been zapped such that all requried service. All were on two layers of surge protection
  
• Emails sometimes arent received by the other party for three months. Same for text messages
  
• Cell phone doesn't ring when set at full volume. 
  
• Cell phones discharge on certain days overnight when they were above a 90% charge
  
• Cell phone camera malfunctions
  
• Remote for ceiling fans malfunctions. Fan speed now turns on the light and light cant be shut off. Used to work fine. 
  
• Car doors lock unlock and lock while inside garage. We arent butt dialing on key fob. 
  
• Ongoing electrcal power disuption in millisecond outages. Enough to knock you off on line but doesnt cause clocks to go off line. 
  
• Neighbors next door have gone through five [5] refrigerators in 12 years. They just burn up as in fry the circuit boards. 
  
• I had the Monkey from the Wire Monkey stop over. Hes based in Lexington, SC. He says this happens all over the lake and in his opinion it comes from the lake. His customers with $20,000 systems experience this also. He no longer installs WIFI. He hard wires everything along with a voltage stabilizer and surge protection. 
  
• Last year in January-February 2023 across several days our security camera picked up a ball of energy coming from the earth. Thats about 100' from the shoreline. It didnt happen again in 2024 on the same days.  It freaked out the fire department who said it wasnt gas or methane. I sent video to NASA for explanation. They confirmed getting the video but never responded. 
  
• Savannah River Nuclear Reservation is 60 miles away. We also see UFO's flying over there and there is a geostationary satellite only visable with night vision infared camera.

Appreciate the comments mate and god knows what's going on - am not really that tech savvy but my first impression on reading the full list of unexplained phenomena was some sort of bizarre microwave tech - also 15 Gigawatts is a huge amount lol.

Suppose one has got to factor in all of the reported anomalies in a small localised area (and timeframe) when attempting to fathom what's going on..and I know a great many people simply don't buy the pseudosceptic 'debunk' about a few fires being set by the village idiot.

Anyway came across another strange factor involving 'carbonized' plant life.

Mauritanian grass roots carbonize

While the fires burnt throughout the city, other mysterious events were reported in and around the village. Strangely, the roots of hundreds of plants of the species Ampelodesmos Mauritanicus, a plant commonly called Mauritanian grass, were carbonized up to the top of the root. The upper part of the plants suffered only superficial burns and other plant species remained completely unharmed.

The Canneto di Caronia fires – Earthly phenomena, alien attack, or arson – spontaneous fires in Canneto baffle world’s leading scientists.

Don't really put much stock into the research of Paola Harris (and the link has since been taken down) but here are some other saved comments about 'spheres of light coming out of the water'.

Harris says that when the events started she spoke with a man in the Italian Navy who worked in intelligence in Rome at the Italian Navy Academy. Harris says, “He told me spheres of light were coming out of the water and it was pretty terrifying, that I should not involve myself.”

Very scary that this was done to this village.  Makes you wonder how many other remote villages around the world this was done to.

And really, while I can think of a few uses by the government for this, albeit on a larger, more powerful scale, just the psychological factor alone is pretty worrisome.

Could be useful in a land grab as well.
