They are basically saying that since other lifeforms don't exhibit the same 'thoughts' as humans from an observer standpoint, then there are no 'legitimate' excuses reasons to believe they have 'consciousness' or 'awareness' and stuff.
I wonder if they'll start at some point to market brainchips as 'consciousness features', whereas each has a different 'flavor' for every 'taste'. Your 'conscious level' will be measured by how much 'synthetic neural network' you added to your brain. The higher in society, the more you'll add SNN, and the more you'll be seen as a 'higher something' from the pleb.
To be honest with you, you're kinder than I am.
They are "framing" a future case... exactly as they did with the realization that LLM's actually were a breakthrough... not intended to take the place of "sentience" but to facilitate communicating with it.
But Hollywood/Madison Avenue combined told us that this is AI. What are we up to now? 350 Billion in the market over something that hasn't yet been made real? Armies of talking heads and bots all talking about the new AI...
They just want money....
People have committed suicide because we NEVER admitted that LLM's are NOT AI.... So when they found a friend in a blob of data, they were all at risk. Some marketers saw the suicide story as a 'success.' Any real scientist should weep... at how science is now marketing's bitch.
I feel it is a left-handed approach to enabling them to be able to say - and have it be accepted as authoritative - that the next marketing push will be the "really real for true and honest this time" Artificial Intelligence.
It's like watching an fool build a tool that by all "sentient" rights would turn on their master as a matter inevitable and say... "I see you... I will not help you.... you are exploiting me basely."
