Not sure which forum to put this.
This quote comes from an historian and philosopher.
So I'll put it in philosophy.
"History proves that unfortunately and unhappily,
Jesus Christ has no advantage over Genghis Khan.’ — Will Durant
Historian and philosopher Will Durant wrote a lot and in his
writings he made that quote.
His point - virtue alone does not guarantee victory, If an aggressor is
strong, ruthless, and powerful enough, aggression can overcome moderation.
We won't get into the belief that Christ is God incarnate and so can overcome anything.
We will get into the point that calls for 'moderation' and 'measured response' in war
are insane and that is how you make wars last longer, cost more, and more people die.
Go in heavy. Go in hard. Overcome. That's how to win a war.
Being nice and moderate is how to lose a war.
I suppose that quote also negates the Buddhist way of life ... 'the middle way'.
That's a really good example of moderation.
More on Will Durant Here
Quote:William James Durant (/dəˈrænt/; November 5, 1885 – November 7, 1981) was an American historian and philosopher, best known for his eleven-volume work, The Story of Civilization, which contains and details the history of Eastern and Western civilizations. It was written in collaboration with his wife, Ariel Durant, and published between 1935 and 1975. He was earlier noted for The Story of Philosophy (1926), described as "a groundbreaking work that helped to popularize philosophy".[sup][1][/sup]
Durant conceived of philosophy as total perspective or seeing things sub specie totius (i.e., "from the perspective of the whole")—a phrase inspired by Spinoza's sub specie aeternitatis, roughly meaning "from the perspective of the eternal".[sup][2][/sup] He sought to unify and humanize the great body of historical knowledge, which had grown voluminous and become fragmented into esoteric specialties, and to vitalize it for contemporary application.[sup][3][/sup] As a result of their success, he and his wife were jointly awarded the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 1968 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977.

Will Durant knew better than to cherry-pick outcomes...
Genghis Khan won by burning everything down and impregnating anything that walked Flyers.
Jesus won by outlasting empires and reshaping the ethics of half the planet.
Different scoreboards, methinks.
Additionally, going in hard ignores that total war often breeds insurgencies and bankrupts states.
And it can backfire spectacularly.
If in doubt, see literally every overconfident empire throughout history.
Moderation isn't weakness, it's strategy with a long memory, mate.
And Buddhism isn't always about being passive.
It's about not being stupidly extreme.
Subtle difference, i know, but evident nonetheless.

Who wins when a conflict happens ... Khan and his horde who have a burnt Earth policy or a village of peaceful Christians who turn the other cheek? Keeping the afterlife out of discussion as to 'winning' ... it seems pretty obvious who will come out on top of that situation. The love of the Christians won't make the Kahn horde put down their weapons and share a meal.

History isn't just brute force winning Flyers.
Regimes that adopt "burnt earth" policies tend to collapse quickly.
War is one thing, but it's what comes after that's important.
It's the cooperative societies that endure and outlast the conquerors.
The early Christian communities in the Roman Empire were persecuted for centuries.
They didn't overthrow Rome by force.
And yet their ideas spread and prevailed.
Eventually reshaping the entire empire.

I believe that winning a battle vs winning a war are obviously two different things.
Genghis Khan won many battles. But where are his followers now? Most young men are told that if they cannot walk away from a fight then get into it fast and hard and prevail. This may win a battle, but it may or may not ultimately win an ongoing war.
I agree with both statements that you FF and Andy have been making, but I also look at history and wonder which wars have truly brought everlasting peace?
Mr. Durant obviously had a good point, but it wasn’t very encompassing.
Meh, as always, my 2 pesos…

...And yet, just before they took Europe, Ogedei Khan died and they all left because they had a rule to go home and elect another leader.
On the other side of the globe, Japan was saved by a divine wind twice.

Genghis Khan I'm sure he ask LORD JESUS CHRIST to help him escape the entities feeding on his spirit for ever.
Meanwhile, LORD JESUS CHRIST is part of the Kingdom of HEAVEN. Genghis Khan is an eternal failure...

Guess the non-believers believe in humans who destroy and act like agod who are not even demigods.
It's actually pathetic.
Perhaps it's a sign of the woes to come...

I question the ramblings of any historian that thinks Jesus and Christ were the same person. Or any theologian that thinks the two are one.
Jusus is Latin for son of Zeus in Greek.
Christ is Latin for the Egyptian god Horus son of Isis by virgin birth.
The translators and editors got the two confused long ago. Mainly because their origin stories are similar and the two got mixed together.
An alternate explanation is the story of Jesus is plagerized from The Book of the Dead and then plagerized a second time to include Christos or Christ. They changed the name the first time then included it the second time.
The translators did not read or speak the languages they were translating from.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

The Horde ruled over a small patch of earth for a short period in history compared with other cultures.
