Japan has a shortage of Buddhist monks.
(Just like the Catholic church has a shortage of Catholic priests.)
Researchers in Japan have developed an AI powered robot to
fill in the gap of Buddhist monks.
My opinion .... I'm not Buddhist and I'm not Japanese so they can
do what they want, but I think this is cheating. The monks are
supposed to be wise humans who are spiritually centered and
who can help guide others. A robot is a cheat.

Quote:Japan is testing how artificial intelligence could enter religious life after researchers introduced an AI powered robot monk at a temple in Kyoto. The humanoid, known as Buddharoid, appeared before reporters wearing a simple grey robe and speaking in a calm voice about Buddhist teachings.
Developed by Kyoto University, the robot combines AI conversation tools with human like movement. It can walk, gesture and respond to personal questions drawn from Buddhist scriptures. During a demonstration, it advised a journalist struggling with anxiety to slow down and observe thoughts rather than follow them.
Researchers say such machines could help address Japan’s shortage of monks as the population ages, while raising questions about the role of technology in spiritual practice.

Not quite the same thing, given its Buddhism.
We have always been destined to build our own God.
Given the fact that the other fella is an absentee parent.
Self-soothing of sorts i suppose.
We are like that little monkey Punch.
Playing with a teddy as a substitute for his mother.

I'm thinking too, that a monk is someone who lives and leads by example. Someone the aspirant looks up to and reveres. I can't see a robot filling that role.

It's Japan through midicon.
They do have some rather strange ways.
A nation of somewhat weird proclivities, and then some, imho.

I wrote a jaunty little rhyme a while back on here about the future lol. The last verse went...
Where everyone shares the same dream every night.
Through the Musk interface and the Open AI.
Where religion has gone, every Mosque every Church.
And God can be found in a quick Google search.
We might be heading there lol.

The people were great ... but very different.
(and the earthquakes were a trip!! Always shaking!!)

We could get into a deeper discussion about building our own God.
Haven't people always done that? Bult their own gods?
Allah was a pagan desert god that got elevated by Muhamad to be 'the one'.
Jehovah was a tribal god that got elevated by the Hebrews.
OR ... were they really worshipping the 'One True God' Who we discovered as time went by?
Just that He went by different names in different places.
Yeah .. humans building gods .. giving them abilities and backstories ...
that could be a good discussion.

We like to tell ourselves stories Flyers.
It soothes our souls.
Yeah, sounds like it could be a rather profound discussion.

Tell the Muslims the truth .... that their Allah is an invented pagan god and Muhammad didn't have holy visions. Tell Christianity the truth about where Jehovah first came from, and all the ramifications of that. If that truth sank in, it would literally blow minds.
And if it turns out there is no God running things, my mind will be among those blown because I count on that as a foundation for existing. (yes I have lots of doubts already, but I still count on it)
Did we invent God or did we discover Him as humanity grew ?
If we invented Him and we all discover that is the truth, then the foundation for why we exist for half the world will be gone. No solid ground to stand on. It would be a massive mental health breakdown.

If Gods were shown to be, or proven false, i don't think meaning would vanish overnight.
People generate purpose through relationships, creativity, and their shared values.
We tend to adapt, reinterpret, and rebuild frameworks when the old ones fall apart.
It's kind of what we do best, that being able to adapt and overcome obstacles.
