Blizzard Feb 22 - Mid Atlantic/North East
#1
Yep ... big blizzard today and tomorrow.

Forecast models have all of Delaware, South East Pennsylvania, all of New Jersey, New York City, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts with a massive storm today and tomorrow.

Our forecast has a blizzard warning (all of Delaware has a blizzard warning) with an expected 21 inches of snow.    Almost all of New Jersey is expecting two feet of snow.   New York is expecting up to two feet of snow.  Boston up to two feet of snow.   Etc.   (forecasts from the weather forum that I link)

NYC and Philly and Boston have blizzard warnings.

This is where I go for the latest models and discussions between meteorologists - weather discussions

It's a classic Nor'Easter .. Miller A storm.

With 18-24 inches of heavy wet snow and high winds, I expect a lot of power outages, especially in Delaware and New Jersey where the totals seem to be forecast the highest.   And expect a lot of injuries with people shoveling heavy wet snow .... back injuries, pulled muscles, heart attacks.

New York City did a LOUSY job with the storm three weeks ago.   That was just 8 inches with ice.   This is going to be a foot and a half for them.  Twice as much.   And it's going to be heavy and wet instead of powder.   The people of NYC are in for a mess this week.

Philly was really slow getting to non-main roads for the last storm as well.

If the forecasts are correct, I'd imagine school will be out in the warning areas for the whole week.   The areas get the highways cleared, but it's the roads through neighborhoods that get neglected.

New York City hiring temporary people to help shovel blizzard snow.
Requiring them all sorts of identification including social security cards.
Kinda funny ... to vote in NYC you don't need any of that, but to
shovel snow you do.    Lol

New York City Hiring Snow Shovelers for Blizzard
Quote:New York City on Saturday put out a call for emergency snow shovelers ahead of a powerful nor'easter bomb cyclone, requiring workers to submit multiple forms of identification — contrasting the city's election policy for most voters.

For the first time in nearly a decade, a blizzard warning was issued for New York City, with expected snowfall totaling 19 to 24 inches and wind gusts up to 55 mph.

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) announced Saturday it is recruiting temporary, per diem shovelers to remove snow and ice from public areas, including bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants and step streets.

They must also bring two small 1.5-inch square photos, two original forms of ID and copies, along with a Social Security card for registration, officials said.

If this forecast comes to life ...
If we get two feet of freakn' snow ...
how the heck am I going to walk the dog?

He 'holds it' when we even get 6 inches.
We have to walk on shoveled sidewalks and in the plowed street
and he refuses to 'go' unless he finds blades of grass sticking up.

With two feet a lot of people are just not going to even try to
shovel the walks.  Two feet of heavy wet snow ... not powder snow.

He's a shiba inu.   between small and medium sized dog.

When we walk him after it snows he holds it and holds it.

We are too old to shovel a path in the back yard .. certainly not
shovel a path with two feet of heavy wet snow on the ground.

UGH ....  Lol

And there are people in the neighborhood with small dogs.
little legs ....  they have trouble with even six inches of snow
when it's shoveled because their little tummys are so close to
the cold ground and snow.   Two feet ... man ... they are going
to have a time of it!

With all due commiseration, sympathy and well wishes for your safety........I'm glad it ain't me.

I have had enough of that for the year and ready for warm weather and get my garden planted.
mmmmm home grown tomatoes.....

The forecast here is clear and sunny with a high of 32, but it's just a cold snap. Temps go back into the 50s and 60s in a couple days.

We usually don't get much.
Once in a while we get hammered.
This looks to be one of those times.

I love winter.
But now that I'm older I hate the snow.
Gotta' drive in it ... gotta' walk the dog in it.

Glad we don't have that weather form a change Flyersfan  , we have a tropical 42 to 48 F this year which is unusual, I would get a little plastic sledge for your dog and pull him to their usual toilet spot as cold snow on their private parts is not nice  Lol
Never argue with a idiot as you will get dragged down to his level and beaten with his vast experience
