Bern Switzerland introduces cocaine for recreational use

Sounds like madness to me, and the 80s part of me thinks this sounds like a subversion plot initiated by the KGB or drug cartels. Absolutely, positively, crazy cocaine is addictive as hell in my limited experience in my youth it doesn't enhance people's lives in any way. Makes my jaws hurt just thinking about it

Quote:ZURICH, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Switzerland's capital is examining a pilot scheme to allow the sale of cocaine for recreational use - a radical approach to the war on drugs that is not thought to have been tried elsewhere.

Parliament in Bern has supported the idea, which still needs to overcome opposition from the city government and will also require a change in national law.

Drugs policy around the world is evolving, with the U.S. state of Oregon, for example, decriminalising possession of small amounts of cocaine in 2021 in favour of drug treatment.

Many European countries, including Spain, Italy and Portugal, no longer have prison sentences for possession of drugs including cocaine, although nowhere has gone as far as the proposal under discussion in Bern.[url=https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/swiss-capital-bern-considers-legal-cocaine-project-2023-12-20/]

His mind was not for rent to any god or government, always hopeful yet discontent. Knows changes aren't permanent, but change is ....

That is indeed insanity! Can’t imagine the response this will bring. From addiction, homelessness, crime etc….

Wow that’s a bit hardcore, but ok. Hey, cigarettes are more addictive than cocaine. Why not?

The only advantage cocaine addiction has, is you won't have to suffer from it as long as nicotine addiction.

Not to mention I wouldn't mind a pilot having a nicotine patch during his flight schedule, while him doing a couple of rails in the bathroom with 2 stewardesses might be immediately problematic.

Forget cocaine addiction likely leads to poor life choices, it's just a micro leap to Meth addiction. But mostly if it was guaranteed use wouldn't endanger the public, it can't, people using cocaine like to get out and do things.
