Because people lie.
#1
Before anyone asks, no I didn't have an accident.

I have cameras in all my vehicles, even the ol' 96 Ram. Why ? Because like the title says, People Lie. You can be driving down the road, minding your own business and some asshat comes drifting across lanes, sideswipes your car and then swear to the cops it's somehow your fault. The bad part is, sometimes it works. The way the accident happened could end up looking like your fault and then there goes the insurance rates and we all know folks are more than happy to sue you into bankruptcy if they can get away with it. Even worse is a hit and run where you have to explain to insurance you didn't just fall asleep and wreck your car, someone actually hit you and took off.

People will cut you off in traffic and then slam on the brakes in insurance scams. There's one out of New York I think where it's very obvious that's what was going on and it's a damn good thing that lady had a dashcam. I think the scammers got some jail time. If you do shit like this you deserve at least 5 years.

This is the one I have and it's quite good. It has front and rear cameras and while it may not be top of the line, it's a good camera at an affordable price.

I warn my sister about this all the time, she doesn’t listen but has managed so far to avoid any major collisions.  She rides peoples rear end on the highway, especially in the left lane if she wants them to move.  I hate driving with her.

i took a defensive driving class in AZ, and I remember the instructor drilling into us that we should always be 3 car lengths behind the vehicle in front of us.  I also try to do that, but it pisses people off in Massachusetts.  Drivers here are aggressive, hot headed and always in a rush.

Plan accordingly people!

I sent this video to my sister and it didn’t faze her at all sadly.

My sister is the same way. She drives VERY aggressively in Dallas/Fort Worth, goes into road rage mode at the slightest thing and scared the hell outta me more than once.
I don't ride with her anymore. If we go somewhere, I drive or I don't go. Thems the rules.

I have seen true road rage that ended someones life(Phoenix). I stay away from aggressive drivers and some areas, like Dallas/Fort Worth for example.

Your sister sounds like my ex. I HATED riding anywhere with him because he would be right up people's butts. Like he thought he could just drive through their car!! It was crazy.

I am interested in the car cam system you use.   I have looked into this, and I really want them.   All of them seem so frickin BIG, like a 3" X 3" square in front of your camera.   My 2008 CRV came with a teensy camera, but it was only for collision recording, and couldn't be updated to be used for normal day to day.

If size is a factor, I had one of these and the ONLY thing I didn't like about it was depth of field. When you play back the video, things look farther away than they actually are. The cameras I use now are not big at all and don't interfere with visibility. I have the front one mounted up and behind the rearview mirror and the rear camera is so small you can put it anywhere.

Those cash for crash scams were so big in the uk at one point, the insurance companies pushed up everyone’s premiums to pay for them, the premiums were extortionate practically at one point. One guy tried doing it to me, but I braked even before he did, went round him and gave him the up yours sign.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread but I saw this prime example of why dash cams are important.

This man lost two weeks of his life sitting in jail and had his reputation totally ruined because of something I am always talking about.....zero investigation by the cops. They just saw this man in the area and I don't know what made them suspect he did this hit and run, maybe he had some kind of damage to his car but they sure did arrest and charge him with vehicular homicide, hit and run and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

Luckily the man's sister conducted her own investigation and determined that the police had not even canvassed the neighborhood or asked anyone any questions. She ended up finding a very clear video of a damaged vehicle driving on the street minutes after the homicide.

They ended up getting a private investigator to try and give the video to the police, but the police didn't want the video! So ultimately the man's attorney had to bring the video directly to the DA who he says acted appropriately and dismissed the charges.

If he had a dash cam this probably would not have happened.

The majority of police are good and genuine. A few, well. They will ignore evidence and put up roadblocks to justice for whatever reason. I will say the woman who killed this little boy looks a little smug in her mugshot hopefully there are a lot of people who have problems with child killers in lockup with her.
