I hate dreams. I said this in a thread at ATS. Someone said it's like mind rape and I agree.
In dreams you are in situations you wouldn't allow for yourself in real life, or dealing with people
that you wouldn't in real life. You do things in them you would not do in real life, and say things
you wouldn't say. It's frustrating and it's like someone is screwing with you ...
One of my dreams I've had twice ... that I was Hillary Clintons 'girlfriend' and we were a couple.
Living together somewhere. I can't stand Hillary, yet in the dream were were a 'couple' and I
had entered the relationship willingly and happily. We were talking and 'together' (not sexual in the dream).
To me ... that's someone raping my mind. In real life I would either ignore her or, if provoked,
I'd tell her what a criminal I think her to be.

I know a person ... a woman who is happily married and has kids ... who had a dream that she was on another planet and was married to someone else and she experienced the entire life in her dream. From birth to death. And she was married to to her soul mate in the dream. She said it was very real and even now, years later, she still misses her soul mate from the dream that she lived an entire life in.

According to Jung, dreams have a compensatory nature, they make for the one-sidedness of the conscious mind. This is why sometimes the dreams contradict our attitudes.
Not sure about this theory. But sometimes we do things in dreams we wouldn't do in real life because we aren't constrained by social rules. And it reminds me of the dream I had about my little cousins. I don't like their company. Whenever I visit my uncle and aunt or they visit me, I prefer their son with his wife and children aren't with us. I find their children and my cousin's preoccupation with them really annoying. But I don't express my real feelings out of politness.
I had once a crazy dream that my uncle and auntie organized an evening party and invited me. There were my cousin, his wife and their children there but my auntie also invited all of my little cousins' school friends. The whole dining room was full of obnoxious brats who were gradually getting on my nerves.
At first, I tried to stay calm but two children sat beside me, one on my right and the other on my left side. They were giggling and taking the bits of food from my plate or putting some bits on my plate I didn't want. And it seemed like a fun for them. Suddenly, I got enough, stood up and wanted to hit the children. They started running and I was chasing them around the table and even on all fours under the table. Finally, the kids locked themselves in the bathroom. I started banging at the door and shouting: "You little f**ers, get out or I will kill you!"
My auntie was standing behind me totally shocked. She asked what I was doing. I said to her: "I have enough of your stupid sh*tlings. Choose. It's either me or them." And I woke up.

LOL! That is great. Not hard to understand the subtle subtext in that one, eh?
It is interesting how dreams always wake up at the most dramatic or inconvenient times, isn't it?
Also, according to Jung, anything accorded to Jung is actually a mythopoetic projection of the collective unconscious onto the personal. So there's that.

I recently dreamed about a portal high up in the sky on a cloudy day and when I looked at it, it turned into a storm. At the same time I realized the horizon wasn't cloudy, there was a tidal wave filling the sky. The portal was gone and replaced by the wave, the world was ending. I tried to run, saw an old man..ran past and got squished seconds later.
A couple of nights before this I saw the world taken by a devil. It was going around brutally killing people, like a cat playing with mice. He looked like Aku from Samurai jack and it was noteworthy for strangeness even while I was standing next in line to die.

Every so often I dream of the prophecied 'Three Days of Darkness".
In my dreams I'm running around covering up the windows and locking up doors.
And I light blessed candles.
That's what the prophecies say that you should do.
And there is always someone running around behind me uncovering the windows.
ANd then I run around covering them again.
And they run around uncovering them.
and so on and so on ...

At best, dreaming is beautiful, freeing, joyful and spiritual . A travel to another time and dimension, outside of body.
At medium, dreaming is mundane yet interesting, with quirky characters but recognisable day's events and rehashing of memories.
At worst it can be a febrile torture of madness.
I hope you can regain the joy in dreaming, and learn to control them, and use them.

Unfortunately I had a somewhat similar experience.
I had a dream something bad had happened and I was in a brick building like an old warehouse and somehow looking down at my mother sitting at a table by a window. Everyone was upset. I wasn’t sure why I was above most of them or why my father wasn’t there.
A year or so later, that was the setting of the restaurant my aunt chose for my father’s post-funeral reception. Our family had never been to that restaurant and had no connection to it but my aunt chose it for some reason. The restrooms were on the floor above the function room and looked down on it like a balcony. Exactly as in my dream.

Has anyone here ever kept a dream journal?
Because I was wondering if the deja vous feeling of "oh i had a dream about this!" was maybe some kind of retconn fill-in-the-blanks thing?
How would you know?
Perhaps that is why dreams slip away so easily, to leave a convenient blank to fill in.
Also, the thing with all the weird hats.
