I *agree* that induction and brainwashing and manipulation are real.  My argument is that we are all so different (physically and psychologically) that no machine could actually cause this effect.  You *might* be able to do it with lab rats, who are essentially clones of just a few animals.  Get the right breed of lab animals and you can have a high rate of success.

If you did it on a population that's as diverse (genetically, socially, and culturally) as humans, I am highly skeptical that you could do "mind manipulation" to any real extent.  Otherwise, as I've said, Big Business (which doesn't have to go through ethics checks for any experiment/data gathering) would have us all buying Teslas, wearing Nike shoes, and so forth.

Military projects do have to follow some ethical guidelines but businesses aren't that constrained.

It's not about selling you stuff. It's about making the screen so addictive that you never want to tear your attention away from it.

feed the screen feed the screen
whats fed is eaten
where there is feeder there is eater
give data telemetry history metrics
feed feed feed
and be rewarded with addiction

i wonder would it be as compelling
if nothing were made of it
would the universe
allow that?

Don't see why not.  In the early days, only geeky types could access it and the only really screen addicted people were early gamers and ones who could get to the chatrooms.  The sheer expense of it limited screen time and access.

Anyway the Sinister thing is I made an experiment after arguing with some engineers on ATS. I used potassium chloride in glycerin to simulate the potassium ion suspended in lipid neuronal membrane. Hooked up a electrical resistance meter to some electrodes in a tube of the solution. When I exposed it to certain wavelengths of blue purple light the electrical resistance completely and consistently changed with amplitude and frequency under influence of certain light frequencies
