Letter of Marque in the modern era
#1
Let's talk about issuing Letters of Marque in the modern era... and why American pirates might not be as crazy of an idea as it seems. Calling all pirate wannabees ! I want to know how the payment schedule will work and do Drones count ??

Way back when Privateers could own "cannons" would this mean we could buy 105s and 155s for our paddle boats... Heat seeking moisture missiles or drones might work best with less recoil ?? !!

If this goes through I might start a flag company as no respectful pirate wannabe can sail forth into battle without a show of colors IMO.. In this case the Red flag with all its meaning might be very popular ??

Is a flag of death going to win a war, sure. So going all Somalia on China is a good plan? I will pass. It ain't the 1800's when those kind of tactics where easier to get away with.

As for the the other pirates sailing the digital sea in the information age, national boarders are blurry against things like ransomware. Need to be good to avoid the blow back from the waves such things generate.

Rep. Tim Burchett., R-Tenn., joins 'Fox & Friends Weekend' to elaborate on his bill that would allow privateers to take on cartels as President Donald Trump's crackdown intensifies.

One Question I have would the letter of Marque be for land, sea, and air ? If so, think about it .....

I’m not seeing much of an explanation here.

but if we are talking ocean-going piracy against China, might I posit they got us beat on the boat-building front.

and if we can’t/wont help Taiwan, next up will be Hawaii and the West Coast.

just my two pennies.

ETA: if allowing “letters of marque” to be used against S. American cartels is such a good idea, why just now? Also having private citizens go against the cartels when you’re trying to make the case for war against certain countries sounds dubious at best. Just sayin’.

Big discussion on the letter of Margue  and governments already doing this like Wagner

IMHO "Letters of Marque" are tools of fascism.

It creates the 'illusion' that legitimate governmental use of "mercenary" forces can justify piracy.

Incidentally, all such "sanctioned pirates" are only "notionally" as well-trained and accountable as the actual military forces they "displace."...

(and some corporate "organizers" get filth rich making the MIC combine richer still... of course, "political" parties get a cut in 'free speech' donations... so that's all good I guess... all with global banking debt incurred... for ever...)

It is the very "kiss" of fascism... the intercourse of government representatives and 'commerce'  -  expressed in violence.

Apparently the force of our "national will" can now be expressed by anyone with currency.... ahem.

However... it wouldn't exactly be piracy if it happened within our own waters....
