A turd by any other name
#1
Let's say a major car company makes a car or truck that just isn't selling. Month after month, they're taking a huge loss on production. Do they keep making it ?
Of course not. They cut their losses and discontinue the product.

A shoe company makes a product that is crap and people don't buy them. The production costs far outweigh the profit. Do they keep making it ?
No. They discontinue the product.

Now let's say You own a company, maybe a bakery. You get it in your head to make pineapple/jalapeno cheesecake. Sure, a few of them sell, but on the whole, you're spending much more to make them than you'll ever see a profit from.
Do you keep making them ?
Once again, No. You cut your losses and discontinue the product.

Now we have a late night talk show getting cancelled because it's losing $40 million a year and it's suddenly about Constitution Rights and Freedom of The Press ?

...or is it that one side is losing a major Party mouthpiece  and throwing it's usual hissy fit ?

A turd by any other name still gets flushed.

Losing 40 million a year sounds more like an agenda to smear at any cost than a business model but what do I know.

Right ?

I challenge anyone to tell me the name of a show on that network that they continue to make, even when it shows massive losses.

Cable television has been on its way out for several years now, in the advent of streaming services and more people just using the internet.  I hate to admit it, but it's mostly just the older generation that is stuck with cable television now, and I can see its detrimental effects on them.  Nothing political, just the drab overall effect of commercials and depressing news and garbage TV shows.  I wish they could all go on BitTorrent sites online, and find anything they wish: for free! (Like I do)....

But if Colbert's Tonight Show is losing that much money, then I would suspect Jimmy Fallon's and all the other guy's who have basically the exact same format show, are also losing money as well.  But I haven't heard of their entire franchises being cut off suddenly, after obvious politically charged issues with the corporations involved and the content of their shows, and the specific types of jokes they tell about Donald Trump, for example.  There really are no coincidences, in that regard.  The cancellation obviously happened for a reason that was politically motivated, not just financial.  They could have replaced Colbert with a different host etc.  But that's not what happened.

I basically was going to say exactly what greymagick said and then also point out that the 40 million loss thats being talked about is based solely on a wall street journal piece owned by Fox and that there is no real evidence of the salary unless one of you guys have stock in it and were there for the quarterly meeting because I wasnt.

But yeah! 100% what greymagick said and its a shame too because Jimmy Fallon is great! I just like his music stuff really lol like when he sung more than words with Jack Black that was pretty cool

The man is a master of satire.

And blends sharp intellect with warmth and humanity.

His quick wit and fearless honesty make him a rare voice in comedy.

Im sure he will find another forum without to much of a problem.

With Netflix and Apple TV+ already having shown interest.

CBS's loss really in more than just money.

"Yet so it is, we see the illiterate bulk of mankind that walk the high-road of plain common sense, and are governed by the dictates of nature, for the most part easy and undisturbed. To them nothing that is familiar appears unaccountable or difficult to comprehend."

I would wager that ALL of CBS shows are tanking I mean greymagick hit it on the money with cable TV being a thing of the past. Not only that but late night TV in general is obsolete when you have everything now on demand instantly at any time.

Colbert, Stewart, Fallon, Kimmel etc.

They're hacks for people who can't stomach The View.

So you think it's all political and losing $40 million a year is a sound business practice ?

..or maybe, it's because CBS is trying to merge with Sky Dance and getting rid of the unprofitable baggage .

Would you like to merge with a company that loses that much money on one show ?
